I am asking this question on the behalf of a friend going through Jamaica.

She has a nephew who will begin college in the USA, Jan. 2009. He has been accepted, and appears to be having a hard time receiving an appointment for a visa from Jamaica. Is anyone aware of this problem?

I don't spend a lot of time in this forum, so any feedback you can offer would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Boaz - Not sure about the student visa process - But I can tell you that visa appointments in JA are hard to come by -

I think they have to pay the fee at Paymaster first, then schedule the appointment online - Info is here about student visas, and there is a procedure for an emergency appointment -

Here is the link:

Try e-mailing the embassy. Let her know that her nephew is not the only one having a hard time. Two of my counsin will attended universities in the states in Janauary and they've not be able to schedule an appt. either. They were told to e-mail the embassy. So, you can try that also.

Keep in mind, the JA embassy is notorious for this sort of thing. I would e-mail and call a lot. Make each e-mail sound more urgent....2nd attempt.....etc. Also, make sure it says student visa in the subject line.

Good luck.
