What does the President-Elect mean for Immigration?

I am really asking an honest question, as all throughout the campaign neither one of the candidates would touch the issue. And I want to know as I feel this affects all of us directly. (Besides other things of course but he covered those pretty good)

What does Barack Obama mean for Immigration today?

Where does he stand on the Immigration issue?

Thoughts?

Unfortunately, he's likely to follow the ostrich approach to it (of course, this has been followed by both Jorge Bushes and Bubba Clinton as well to date)--basically nothing. :P

Not sure exactly but I hope there will be some modifications that make the process quicker and easier....

I know in early August 2008 Bush signed into law legislation that allows people with AIDS to immigrate to the USA:

"Currently, HIV-positive people looking to permanently immigrate to the US can not do so, and short-term visitors are required to disclose whether or not they have a communicable disease on their visa application process, and if so, they must obtain a special waiver for entry. Bush signed a new law to allow the removal of a 20-year-ban on HIV-positive foreign nationals entering the US. The legislation means that Bush has approved the changes to the Immigration Act, and passed the Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which increased the US budget to fight AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis from US$15billion to $48billion."

Karinund Otto,

You have a good point , there are so many other issues to take care of right now no one is likely to start working on it tilll later in the term.

I just wonder where he stands on it as I have not been able to find anything relating to it.

WAY TO GO Bush! (Dripping with sarcasm)

According to the I-693 of six years ago when we applied, tests for all these communicable diseases were required, but if the applicant had any of them, still were admissible, but had to agree to counseling.

As the sponsoring USC, did question the USCIS approved doctor, shouldn't I be tested as well? He said, no law to that effect, so I gather it's not okay for an alien to give communicable diseases to a USC, but is okay for a USC to give these diseases to an alien. Should work both ways.

Of course, we were all negative. I volunteered for all the tests, if my wife and daughter had to go through them, felt I did too, fair is fair.

That is basicly what the Democratic party's embrace of open borders and no deterent to illegal immigration is all about. It's not about the American people...it's about winning elections and staying in power. The idea that you can import "a base" should be abhorant to the American people, but unfortunately it appears not.

I also see an accelerated march to an immigration driven US population of 420+ million by 2050. That will suck for the kids in the future because it was self induced and didn't have to turn out that way.

I look at the Democratic sweep about the same as the last Republican sweep. We all get screwed, but this time with a different #######.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

99.999% likelihood of disappointment on that score--as few (if any) immigration reforms have been done since Reagan's 1986 scamnesty, of which potential immigrants (especially employment-based, and spouses of immigrants) are still feeling the aftereffects.
