Technically he's the first African-American president, if you want to be nit-picky.
...so, you're saying he was born in Africa?

Or are you saying he merely lived there for some period of time?

I've lived in Australia and Russia for various periods of time, but I don't think that makes me an Australian-American or a Russian-American....

AustroRussian?

There has been no other president that was even 'half black'.
nor one who was "half white" (:

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

He is technically black,...ethnicity is determined by the paternal side of tha family. My husband is half black/half white,..and is considered black,..because his Dad is black.

Obama is half-white. His father, who was black, abandoned him and his mother when he was about two years old. He lived with his white mother and white grandparents. This being the case, if he is half black and half white - isn't it just as accurate to call his a white president as it is to call him a black president?

No. Dont you know about the American rule od percentage already.....google.....its your friend. Black is not a color people. geesh!

He is technically black,...ethnicity is determined by the paternal side of tha family. My husband is half black/half white,..and is considered black,..because his Dad is black.

haha....dont know where this came from. My husband is half white...father is white....and he would shoot somebody for thinking he's white.

Black is a term by the WHITE people tagged during the slave trade. Or maybe, before. You cannot tell what is black or white until you see one. That was the simple minded people then. Today, our view is different due to the de-segregation and immersion. Society view blacks generally as a culture. Hence, the association by referring to people with behavior similarities as BLACKS. This is my view.

Yes Black is a culture...no matter what COUNTRY you are from. What is wrong with people? Why does no one understand this?

However, one fault with BLACKs culture and the actual African culture. Two seperate entities. The BLACKS that we generally prefer are probably the AFRICAN CULTURE here in the USA, but not that in Africa. Over there, black is probably just the skin color because the only way to differentiate the people is by the culture not by skin color.

So, can yo be lilly white in colour, but still be black if you identify with and live that culture?

Well in this society no, but in your click...YES!! you can.

As far as Obama I do think he represents Black culture.....so much about him is a Black man...cant explain it to you ...you just see it. Those who are Black, or really understand Blacks will know and see that that man exudeds Black man. His mannerisms, speech, style, swagger.....definitley Black. I think much of society thinks Blacks are like low class uneducated....I dont get that...of course there are people like that...but you know what...the swagger between and uneducated and educated BLACK man in ALWAYS the same.

So because he was raised by a white family, he lost his blackness?

Omg someone phone the Jolie-Pitts! I bet she'll send those kids back to where they came from if she found this glitch out!

Define "blackness".

There has been no other president that was even 'half black'.

Some believe Warren Harding was part Black.

He is technically black,...ethnicity is determined by the paternal side of tha family. My husband is half black/half white,..and is considered black,..because his Dad is black.

That's not how it works in the US.
