well, i did my refugee in syria and came with my family through the UNHCR there... me and my husband got married during my refugee processings so i couldn't add him to my case.. he is trying now to go to syria and tell them that his wife is in the US hoping that may help him to get the refugee or resettlement interviews.. but i'm thinking now that may be he should not tell them about the form I-730 that i had applied for him, they may be as you said think that my husband can come on another visa so he doesn't have to get the refugee..i don't know......

i didn't thought you are a citizen !! i just assumed that you have the green card only.. the problem is how can you be a citizen and your application takes all that tiiime ! i heard that the citizen can get his/her spouse within 2 months or less! and for the alien residence it may takes 8 months.. and for those like me without anything1 it may takes up to 2 or 3 years..this is really depressing me..

No, if you look at the Middle East/North Africa forum you will see many women wait at least one year in most cases to bring their husbands and many more can wait two years. This is all US citizens. Now if the spouse is from Europe or Canada then the process can be shortened down to 6 months or so. A lot of us are shocked how long all this takes as we assume it would be only a few months. It is physically impossible no matter where your spouse is from to get them here in less than 4 or 5 months and cases that quick are usually because of some kind of medical emergency or something.

My husband's case might have been a little quicker but we had to wait for his G series passport and that took seven months because the Iraqi embassy in Jordan is really backed up for the passports. Also, I couldn't send the original documents to NVC (like his birth certificate) because he was doing the refugee processing and they needed the documents. Those two things put us back about 7 or 8 months before I could continue the spouse visa.

I think your case is totally different to get your husband here. When your husband begins refugee he can tell him he is trying to reunite with his wife who came to the United States as a refugee. They should also see that on your paperwork so it shouldn't be held against him. In my case, as a US citizen, they know that my husband can get the visa for spouse in much less time than you would so I think they delay his case. The problem is that we prefered for him to come as a refugee because it gives him more benifits and an easier start. If he comes as a spouse, we must pay for his plane ticket up front and there will be no support for him besided me when he gets here. We like that they will give the classes for orientation to America and that he will have some extra money of his own to use until he can find a job. Regardless though, I would take getting him here either way. I miss him so much and he is going crazy with this waiting. Unfortunately, the process to get a arab husband here is one of the longest as they required more background checks, especially on Iraqi men. An Iraqi woman can get here much faster and easier as I have seen.
