hi everybody,

i'm a new member here in the visajourney website and also new in the united states.. i hope you can halp me with my case.

i arrived to the US a few months ago and my status is ( refugee ) now (not green card holder ) .. my husband couln't come with me so i applied for him I-730 refugee relative petition and sent it to TSC then i received a USCIS NOA1 (receipt no. ) and on oct. 23 i had received NOA2 ( approval notice ) and they said that my case had been approved and forwarded to the NVC...

i'm wondering now what the next step is going to be? how can i check my case status? will i get a new receipt no. from the NVC ..?

how long time it takes in the NVC?

please i have alooot of questions , i sent many emails to the NVC but i didn't receive auto reply message and no answer from them..

any information from you will help me alot..

The next step is to call NVC and check their automated system to see if your case shows up yet. It may already be on there or take another week or so. You can put your USCIS case number in until it tells you what your NVC case number is. You will have a paper they require your husband sign and mail in or he can email them though someone else will have to explain that as I had a lawyer so I didn't have to do that paper. It is just giving permission from your husband for you to handle his case. After that you will be sent fee bills for the Affadavit of Support and the visa application. The fee for the affadavit of support is $70 and the fee for the visa application will be $400. You must put paperwork together showing how much money you make and if you don't make above the poverty level then you will need a co-sponsor. You haven't been here long so your income may be a problem. Also, for the visa application you will need to send with it originals of your marriage contract, husband's birth certificate, any military records and police clearance if he is living outside Iraq (you don't need one for Iraq). If I think of anything else I will try to add to it.

My husband did all his processing for refugee back in May but they still didn't give him the final approval so we have continued with the spouse visa for now though we keep hoping the IOM will call so we don't have to wait anymore. I can imagine what you are going through. I wish you luck with your case.

thankyou s and s you were so helpful.. i'll try to call the NVC

but for my petetion I 730 i'm not sure if i have to pay the fee bills i think it differs from I-130..

because i asked a lawyer and she said (if he come) he will be considered a refugee too as me..and she didin't say anything about the bills or his signature.. ( i'm not sure if that's true or not ).

thanks again

Okay, I don't know about the I-730 but I am sure NVC will send you instructions on what to do next. Feel free to ask if there is something I can help you in. This process is not an easy one and lots of paperwork! Also, welcome to the country. I hope you are getting settled in okay. I know it is a big change for you and remember it takes time but hopefully you will not have many problems.

by the way .. my husband had registered in the UNHCR in syria and i want to send him the USCIS approval notice hoping that may helps him to be transfered to the resettlement program of refugee .. do you think that can help us?..

Actually, when my husband's I-130 was approved I got a letter and application from the Department of State offering to let my husband apply as a refugee to the United States. I think it came within 4 weeks of his approval though I can't remember the exact timing. It said for him to fill it out and send it but it didn't need his signature so I did it myself to save on time and money for the mail. I think it was a month or so after that when he got the call from the IOM to come in and do his first interview. I think it should certainly help as you are bringing him on refugee and I am sure you need those benifits to start out with when he gets here.

thank you s and s i wish you meet your husband as soon as possible.... i wish that for me tooo..

for now i'll wait 2-3 weeks hoping my case reach the NVC , i'll call them every week..

i'm sure i'll need your help .. ( sooner or later ).. thanks

thankyou, I hope so too, the waiting is not easy. Hopefully you will be reunited with your husband soon too.

Keep checking your case every few days as you never know when it will finally come up on their system.

Oh, I found the link that shows the letter you should recieve about applying for refugee on your husband's case. I'm not positive you will get it since you have done extra paperwork I didn't do, but just in case, this will give you an idea. Here is the link:

thankyou s and s , i heard about this program it's only for iraqies who have (green card holder) relatives. so i couldn't apply for that form only the I-730 ... anyway, i have to wait sooo long or may be not .. nobody knows!

Oh okay, I'm sorry, I didn't know that. Hopefully things will go fast in your process. Does your husband have the G series passport? If not it would be good for him to start on that now.

This waiting has me and my husband so depressed. The not knowing when it will ever end. I keep hoping he will get the call for refugee but I've seen that men traveling alone usually have to wait longer than others for final approval (unless they are Christian as those go fast). I'm trying to get things done with a spouse visa as well in case it can be finished faster than the refugee but that takes time too. I don't understand why they make him wait so long on refugee as he did all 3 interviews and his physical exam back in May and June of this year. They just say now he must wait until they call.

ok, i'm surprised why your husband still waiting the IOM call as he did the medical exams on May..did he get the approval letter or not? .. i know that most of the iraqies who finished all the steps of refugee in (syria, jordan. egypt, lebanon and Turky) had to wait more than the normal times because of the end of the fiscal year 08 , but as soon as the new fi. 09 started on Oct. the iOM started again it's action and alot of iraqies are given the security approval and travel dates now.. i wish they call your husband and end all the hard times..you just need alittle patience ..

i want to ask you .. i'm sure your husband in the refugee interviews told them that his wife is in the US.. but did he tell them about his I-130 application? or show them the approval letter or something..

and for my husband he got the G series recently and he is (trying) to go to syria now hopefully he can do something about refugee...............

We have been suprised he wasn't called either. Of course he told them his wife is American, they guy even said he hoped he was with his wife soon. We never thought we would still be waiting until now. My husband's got refugee based on his I-130 and he took the approval notice with him to show them so they definitely knew about it.

I'm not the only one still waiting. There is another woman on here that her husband is Iraqi as well. He finished the refugee process about a month after my husband did and hasn't got the call either. I am beginning to wonder if they delayed our husband's paperwork because they have US citizen wives and just assume they can come on the other visa (though that should take much longer and refugee should have been faster). I don't know. I just keep hoping each day that my husband will get that phone call and they can book him his flight. Which country did you do refugee in?

I wish your husband luck. I know how hard it is now for Iraqis to get into Jordan, Syria, Egypt or just about anywhere. It isn't easy and I hope he makes it fine.

well, i did my refugee in syria and came with my family through the UNHCR there... me and my husband got married during my refugee processings so i couldn't add him to my case.. he is trying now to go to syria and tell them that his wife is in the US hoping that may help him to get the refugee or resettlement interviews.. but i'm thinking now that may be he should not tell them about the form I-730 that i had applied for him, they may be as you said think that my husband can come on another visa so he doesn't have to get the refugee..i don't know......

i didn't thought you are a citizen !! i just assumed that you have the green card only.. the problem is how can you be a citizen and your application takes all that tiiime ! i heard that the citizen can get his/her spouse within 2 months or less! and for the alien residence it may takes 8 months.. and for those like me without anything1 it may takes up to 2 or 3 years..this is really depressing me..
