This proves the majority of the country is not racist. The whining can stop now.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

hehe...

But seriously, I heard so many times "Well I don't know if America will vote in a black person yet..." bla bla bla. I knew the country would if they had someone they liked enough, same thing for voting in a woman. I have no doubt the country was able to vote in both despite people not giving the US enough credit. I think it applies to both parties, give us someone we really want to vote for and it doesn't matter what race or male or female, they'll get votes.

Yes Ms Fracas that is. It seems that some people just can't accept that not everything will be done their way and that things not done their way can be successful. Will every single thing Barack touches turn to gold? Clearly not, and some people may well think that his election is some panacea, which it is not. I don't think those people are in the majority though. I think most people recognize that the government will never work exactly as they would like it to.

And that is what is so hard to get across to people who only want to spew the Koolaid, Messiah nonsense. For some there are only absolutes.

I guarantee that the first indication of failure on the part of Obama on any election promise whatsoever will be met with howls of glee from the die-hards.

They seem to have bought into this idea that the only people who voted for Obama did so because they believed in his "messiahness", hence there'll be a lot of "I told you so" garbage.

Of course "I kinda knew already" won't factor much into that equation.

Idiots all.

I'm a social scientist by trade, with a family in marketing. I studied everything.

And yet, from what transpires here, you know nothing. Sometimes it takes more than hard work. Sometimes it takes what you clearly don't have.

YAWN. Your taunts are so lame.

It's you that's lame. And that is besides not only being on the wrong side of history but also being unable to see a historical moment coming. Hell you wouldn't see it if it slapped you in the face. With all that expertise, knowledge and studying of yours, you'd be expected to do better.

Now that this historiacal moment has slapped us in the face, lets hope turning the other cheek does not get us slapped again!

Corporate media lost.

NPR (Chicago public radio) is talking about how Fox news for one kept telling half truths and blatant lies.

Guilty by association stories about Obama and who lives in his neighbourhood....etc.

The reason Brush won last time (if not for maybe perhaps voter rigging), was bases on fear perpetrated by media.

I hope that USian people get really upset at corporate news media and starts to voice their opinions about biased news and lies.

Stop buying the stories.

Think for yourself.

Ahem...

You know,

I was watching coverage of the rally in Chicago before any of the returns or projections had even started, and I gotta tell you, even though I did not vote for Mr Obama, I couldn't help but look at that crowd and how excited they were and just say to myself- it would just be a bad thing if this guy didn't win.

Even if I question his policies in the future and kind of worry about that, the "human" element of his victory is so overwhelming that it just could not have been denied. I hope...I really, really hope he comes through and proves me wrong. To think I want him to fail when I have two teenage kids who will become adults under his administration is completely off.

How great this moment really is for America, in terms of our relationships with eachother is an undeniable triumph. There are so many things that this presidency can show the American people in terms of stereotypes and the proving what a man really can achieve. He has the biggest chance of bringing us closer as a country since JFK. I look forward to it.

But having said that, I don't think there has been a President with this much weight on his shoulders since maybe FDR or Lincoln. It really is that big. I'm hoping he is successful, because if he fails, it would be just an enormous fall.

I'm not going anywhere on VisaJourney. I love all yous. There's no reason to think I won't be here even after my wife gets her Citizenship, if nothing else just to say "I told you so!". But that is not what I'm hoping for. If he is able to put this country in a good place- no matter how he does it, then you know what? He's got my vote in 2012..assuming the Mayans aren't correct.

Congratulations!

Best post of the thread.

That is very interesting for you to say. Glad some people are open-minded. I am happy Obama won last night for all of humanity it shows a sense of change which was long overdue. Not just because he is black but because we needed fresh ideas and a new leader who stands for all of humanity not just the wealthy or one race or color. He stands for all humans and I appreciate this most in him. He is intelligent and I believe he can help heal America of the sickness which lurks within. This country is filled with hatred, despite the melting pot. We are a blend of all races and nationalities and I appreciate the people who supported Obama with an open-mind and open-heart. Let's get past the color barrier people, he is a man and most of all he is a good man. We may not all agree on his policies, but let's give him time to prove he is a good president. Afterall, it will not take much for him to be a better president than Bush. I am very happy God made this possible for all of us in America! Worldwide many of my friends and family are amazed and well-pleased! Thanks God, you are the almighty! :star:

Indeed. Despite not voting for Obama, this is a precedent I respect, so long as he's actually worth being President, not just President simply because he's black and that being inherently good. Nonetheless, this election also showed that racism is indeed still alive, and the people who held race-based stages against Obama need to be publicly humiliated and deprived of all comfort being in public until they figure it out. There simply needs to be no social acceptance toward racism anymore of this nature.

And I would not say the Republican party completely lost here. Maybe members Republicans in the party lost and the party is definitely not in power, but this could be just what we needed. Certain pretenders and party hacks that got out of touch with the core principals of conservatism needed to go. Its a great time to refocus and rebuild in my opinion.
