I am shocked that California voters will vote in a ban on gay marriage, but vote against terms on abortion. #######?

The ban on gay marriage didn't pass in California, they are still tallying the votes, but it is expected to pass. It did, however, officially pass in Arizona and Florida. And my state (MI) approved medical marijuana and Massachusetts approved a reform that decriminalizes marijuana, people caught in Massachusetts with an ounce or less of pot will NO LONGER FACE CRIMINAL PENALTIES! Instead, they'll forfeit the marijuana and pay a $100 civil fine! :D

Sarah Palin is toast. History. Her political career is over. What a shame

how sweet of you.

there's no need for that...

I just hope this country does not become a UK.

Could you just f@king shut the hell up!!!

he is allowed to voice his opinion, you know.

That's the shape of things to come. The man hasn't even taken office and there's all this talk of how great it's going to be. Based on what? Hope? Change?

Please!

John was talking directly to you when he said, Barrack is a good man, stand behind and support him.

Barrack was talking directly to you when he said, if you do not agree with my policies, tell me, and he will listen.

It all boils down to all the people of America working together, not going back to their sports and soap programs, but taking an active part in making American and a democracy work.

So don't complain here, complain directly to Barrack. You also have the house and senate to deal with.

Trust me, the American people lost last night. Look for compromise of your constitutional rights in the imminent future. The first attack will be against the second amendment. It will be followed by attacks against the first, fourth, and fifth.

Thank Jefferson and Madison for guarranteeing that no single man can trash this country in four years. Cry that this man has so many others in the congress lined up to help him. Celebrate the SCOTUS, which will restrain them in times of constitutional crisis. Mark my words.

What an IRONY

NOW people worry about the constitution, HONESTLY SPEAKING AND BE TRUE TO YOURSELF

DOES THIS CURRENT ADMINISTRATION HAS ANY RESPECT FOR THE CONSTITUTION

There's a whole list i could start with but won't go there. From the 1st amendment, anybody talking against the war was being label ANTI AMERICAN, NO ONE knows how long it will take to REPAIR THE HURT, THE RESPECT, ALL THE DAMAGED DONE BY THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION. THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT controling the govt, THat's why we have the constitution guarantying the Separation of the 3 branches. EXECUTIVE- LEGISLATIVE=JUDISCIARY.

That politics of FEAR has sunken so DEEP into the general population, i think the next thing people will start crying

THE ALIEN ARE COMING NOW WE HAVE PROOF

ET IS HERE

It's interesting to see who's saying "hey we lost, but let's hope we can move forward to a better America" and those who are decrying the death of the US. Let's hope there's more of the former and less of the latter in the coming years. The viciousness of the last several years needs to end. We need to come together to get through this mess. Yes, be vigilent against an untried new president, but let's give the guy a chance to prove himself. It's hard to believe he in any ways could make this any worse than the last administration. I do hope he keeps his promise to listen to everyone and be a president for all Americans unlike Bush.

You know,

I was watching coverage of the rally in Chicago before any of the returns or projections had even started, and I gotta tell you, even though I did not vote for Mr Obama, I couldn't help but look at that crowd and how excited they were and just say to myself- it would just be a bad thing if this guy didn't win.

Even if I question his policies in the future and kind of worry about that, the "human" element of his victory is so overwhelming that it just could not have been denied. I hope...I really, really hope he comes through and proves me wrong. To think I want him to fail when I have two teenage kids who will become adults under his administration is completely off.

How great this moment really is for America, in terms of our relationships with eachother is an undeniable triumph. There are so many things that this presidency can show the American people in terms of stereotypes and the proving what a man really can achieve. He has the biggest chance of bringing us closer as a country since JFK. I look forward to it.

But having said that, I don't think there has been a President with this much weight on his shoulders since maybe FDR or Lincoln. It really is that big. I'm hoping he is successful, because if he fails, it would be just an enormous fall.

Journey. I love all yous. There's no reason to think I won't be here even after my wife gets her Citizenship, if nothing else just to say "I told you so!". But that is not what I'm hoping for. If he is able to put this country in a good place- no matter how he does it, then you know what? He's got my vote in 2012..assuming the Mayans aren't correct.

Congratulations!

Best post of the thread.

Agreed. Dalegg 2012!

Also agreed.

Too bad there are others that seem to be hoping for failure. I just don't understand that mindset at all. Instead of wanting to hope for a positive turn, they are hoping this change will prove disastrous. THAT is messed up!

As an outsider, I don't understand people who are hoping for the failure either. After all, that is the country they live in and Obama fails, they will pay for the price. On the other hand, I do not understand some of the reaction on TV that things will change radically & quickly because Obama won the election & everything will be okay the minute he takes over office.

I guess I just don't understand the irrational part of the election.

Yes Ms Fracas that is. It seems that some people just can't accept that not everything will be done their way and that things not done their way can be successful. Will every single thing Barack touches turn to gold? Clearly not, and some people may well think that his election is some panacea, which it is not. I don't think those people are in the majority though. I think most people recognize that the government will never work exactly as they would like it to. Even my son at nine understands the principle that you can't please all the people all of the time. Maybe in the coming days some of this bitterness will wear off. If not, well, I guess they are going to be in for a rather uncomfortable few years.
