I would vote only on the basis of having all 3 executive branches controlled by the same party just doesn't sound like a logical idea to me. Not knowing enough about either man and not being terribly impressed by either man's politics.. that'd be my rationale..

I would have voted independent. Although I'm a staunch liberal in Canada, I lean more towards conservative policies in the US. I would have never voted for McCain though.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I have been an Obama supporter since I first discovered him two years ago - and am more convinced now than ever that he is the right man for the job. Bravo, Barack Obama - President Elect.

Well, I never trust a politician until he gets into office. Barack says he is bringing change, and I want to believe him so bad...but I'm waiting to praise him until I see it.

This was my very first time ever voting in a federal election anywhere. So it was quite the experience though I did a mail in ballot weeks ago. It really felt good and made me really feel like a real American. I was a Hillary fan myself, so wasn't too thrilled to see Obama was in though. Over time that passed and decided I canb't let McCain win, so Obama was the one I chose.

I never voted when I lived in Canada for any elections when I was there because I didn't care or follow any of the politics there. So having this as the first time to actually vote was cool...

Yes i'm glad Obama won and I did vote for him.

One thing I find strange here is how important it is for the media to keep reiterating that Obama is a man of colour and how last night, during the election coverage (I mostly watched CNN), when they would go to a gathering somewhere it would be like a Baptist church of predominately African American people.

The reason I find this strange is that I voted for Obama, not because of the colour of his skin, but because I think he is the best person to be president of this country.

That said - I don't pretend to understand, the way some people who grew up in this country might, about how much race does or doesn't play a role in this country.

One of my problems with some African-American Obama supporters is that it appears they feel Barrack is there to fight "their" cause. I see Barack is there to fight EVERYONE's cause as a whole.

There was one lady interviewed in Brooklyn that basically said that now that Obama is in power, access to education and better jobs would be achieved. I almost threw up in my mouth. In NJ, if you make under a certain amount of money, your education is free. (I'm not even referring to financial aid) Also, with affirmative action huge steps have been made for diversity in the work place and other institutions. Access to education and jobs has already happened and I think some people are misinformed to think that somehow the US can do more than it already does in certain situations like these?

If you want to say...access to BETTER education in bad or poor neighborhoods than I understand..but not access to education like it is the 1960s.

So many people said that America wasn't ready for a black president. It's not about his race, but you got to admit that its amazing. Its wonderful. Its inspiring to minorities everywhere. You can make it in this country if you put your heart into it and truly believe in your mission and work hard. Many people feel like they're being tied down or held down because of their race. I agree racism is still an issue in this world, but Obama proves to many minorities that you can overcome all obstacles to achieve something great.
