Hey! I am new here! I know this may sound silly but I really need to know. I need to get my passport changed to my new name now that I am married. My question is will my new passport have the old visas and stamps still? How does this work? Must I have copies of my old passport? I am really confused here. Are visas traceable without the old passport to back it up? Also, what is the fee for a name change on a passport? Please tell me the steps and etc and if the visas show up still or how they do it. Thank you in advance! :hehe:

Usually, once your passport expires, you have to get a new one. The valid visas cannot be "tranferred" to your new valid passport. You will have to keep the old one with the valid visas and travel with the valid passport.

As for the name change, I did this at the Consulate. Go to your country consulate wherever you live in US and they might have a procedure. The Brazilian consulate in Texas where I live was able to stamp my valid passport with my married name. I did not need a new passport, as mine was still valid. But I had to submit some documents, like Marriage Certificate and so forth. It's not complicated, but I understand that it differs from country to country. My best advise is, get the phone number of your consulate and give them a call. Or you can find their website over the internet. Good luck!
