Ok,..wth is up with high school teachers,..??...i have a kid failing geometry, and the teacher tells me she looses focus. We asked what we can do to help, how can we help her,..and all the teacher says is, make sure she does her homework,..Umm, she does her effing homework. They have workbooks that they are supposed to use for study purposes, that they write work in, as the teacher presents it, but it doesnt get marked till test day,..so how the hell does the kid know if the work she is studying is correct or not?, or if she is understanding the formulas and examples, or practice things she does, how does the kid know if its correct or not, if her study material is not marked til test day. We tried asking the teacher that yesterday, and my husband got mad when she kept throwing the blame back on my daughter, and blaming not enough hours in the day to mark things on a daily basis, teacher had a fit and stormed out. when we asked the princpal for help, it took her all of 5 minutes to test my daughter and realise shes not grasping it. So how the hell can the teacher not see this,..half a effing year wasted. ohh, and the kicker in this, is my daughter attends tutoring with this teacher weekly,..and she still had no clue. Says alot about the teacher,......

What happened to teachers, marking after hours and on weekends like I used to remember my teachers doing, and my hubby said the same thing. Apparently in California, thats not the case. No child left behind,..my ###!!

Rant over,...any teachers out their with suggestions?

We don't become teachers because it's easy or we make lots of money. We become teachers because we are good at what we do and we are inspired to share with students. If your daughter's teacher is throwing the blame back at her when CLEARLY your daughter isn't the one to blame, it's time to get a new teacher or take the complaint higher. Seriously. Do NOT have her go to tutoring with this teacher any more. Most libraries (public) offer afterschool tutoring for free. Some schools have peer tutoring programs as well (we do and our public library system in Seattle also offers "Homework Zone for free). You should check that out.

Now I have some kids who just don't care, don't do their work, b!tch and complain. To them I say "tough...life sucks." But when the teacher just isn't doing her job, then it's a bigger problem.

Part of the reason why it takes me so long to return papers/essays/stories/portfolios is because I spend HOURS in the evenings and on the weekends grading, making comments/suggestions, etc. It's part of our job. It's what we are meant to do.

Unfortunately there are teachers who just don't care or who are putting in their time until retirement.
