i don't get paid maternity leave either. They say 6 weeks nonpaid, i'm hoping for 3 months. I want to keep the baby from going to daycare when infant as much as I can. If I could take 3 months and charles could take a few weeks that would be awesome.

in brazil maternity leave is 6 months paid.

I guess you could say I get paid maternity leave. We get 6 weeks but we have to take our vacation and sick time. Once it's out you either have to join the voluntary shared leave program to have more donated to you or just go unpaid. I really want to take more than 6 weeks though. Especially since I'm having twins. I'd love to have at least 8 if not more. I will have to depend on people donating time to me though as I've used all mine taking days off to go to Charlotte to the doctor.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

I'm so hungry. Must stop reading about food :)

This is the first Friday since school started that we've had a regular schedule. Seriously, every Friday there's been a meeting or assembly or something. The first two periods my kids and I sat around for 20 minutes just talking about genocide (our current topic of study, not a fave hobby) because I hadn't scheduled enough work to do! Man I'm spoiled.

I think this is the one area of our country's "healthcare system" that seriously needs to be revamped. A woman should NOT have to feel the need to go back to work so soon because we don't get any paid leave. Patrick's only complaint about us having a baby in the US is the whole maternity leave situation. In Germany it's amazing. It is required for women to leave work a month before her due date to rest and get ready for the baby. Then they have varying lengths of paid, partial paid, and government supported (no stigma attached like we do here in the US with welfate) leave. It's insane. Of course, they have a decrease in population....

Yeah, I think it's really sad women are expected to just pop out a baby and head right back to work. Because unfortunately if I don't get time donated to me I'll be back before 6 weeks is up. I can't go 1 week without pay, much less 6. I think every company should have some sort of maternity leave package set up for it's employees. Most of the time you aren't even fully recovered in 6 weeks. It's ridiculous for them to expect you back to work at that time.

I just made some of that chex mix stuff for my sister. She saw a recipe on the back of the box for parmesan ranch chex mix and asked me to make it for her. Its not my kind of thing but she won't stop eating it.

oh, i can take from my sick leave, but i won't have enough. I started to work in mid may, i won't have more than a week, maybe 2. As for going back to work, i'm afraid i'll need a c/section, and i know the recovery is even longer from that, so we'll see.

If I knew this job would be waiting for me, I'd consider take up to a year leave, so I could be with the baby while he's a baby.

Technically I can take an entire semester leave. But I won't get any pay. We just can't afford for me to do a full semester without pay. If it's timed just right, I could have the baby in June and take the summer and the first quarter off. However, since when do babies come according to plan?! Our hope is to either have a baby early next school year so he/she is old enough to travel to Ireland in the summer, or to wait until after that trip.

OMG am I actually attempting to "plan" this?!

lame ### b*tches! :bonk:

it basically mean, I'll be working for free for 2 weeks a month, well, 26 weeks a year, since i get a paycheck every two weeks and one pay check will go back to the company to pay for child care.

well, not really, it's a hundred and something less than my paycheck, but still ...
