Nairobi Embassy Thread!

Hi! I am new to this site (SO SO happy to have found it, but still trying to figure out how to best help others and post my own questions!) Right now I have two questions.

1) I called the Embassy and they confirmed receipt of his materials, and said they mailed his packet 3 today. But should we wait for that packet (it seems it might never arrive) or should he plan to go to Kenya now, take all his documentation, and begin the next step there? (So should we keep waiting, or???)

2) Should I have my fiance begin filling out the paperwork on the Kenyan Embassy website (DS 156, DS 156k, DC-230 etc) before we receive info from the embassy? Will that cause any problems?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome! Go ahead and start filling out the paperwork on the website - it's the same stuff that's in the packet that they mail to you, which you likely will never receive (I think my now husband might be the only person in the history of this thread that actually got it in the mail!) Read through this thread for further instruction (or someone who's gone through it more recently can fill you in on the best way to go about it these days.) Good luck with everything!

go ahead and fill out the forms as long as the embassy has confirmed that they have received your packet from the NVC, then schedule the medical , pay for your visa via mpesa or postbank and schedule and interview online at the us visa- kenya

Thanks to both of you!! I will have him start on the paperwork (the embassy did confirm receipt). I'm so excited that we're getting closer to his interview!! Does anyone know if I schedule his medical exam before he has the letter from the embassy in hand? I've been reading back through the threads which have already been VERY helpful.

You can definitely begin the paperwork on the website...we never received packet 3, lol. In the email from the Embassy, they advise going directly to their website and downloading the forms there anyway. You will need an email from the Embassy indicating that they have received your paperwork in order to schedule the medical :)

Hey guys -

Regarding the interview, what documents need to be originals?

So far, we have -

Original birth certificate (his)

Copy of birth certificate (his)

Original police certificate

Original I-134

Original DS-230

Original DS-156 (2)

Original DS-156K

Copy of I-129F documents (I-129F, copy of check, G-325A, copy of my passport (in lieu of birth certificate))

Copies of NOA1, NOA2

Copies of cards/letters sent to each other

Scans of passport stamps, boarding passes, etc.

Screenshots of chat logs, Facebook, wedding website

Pictures

Am I forgetting anything (other than the medical, which we don't have yet)? Do they need the original NOAs, or are copies fine? Do they want the physical cards/letters we've sent?

Thanks!

All of the forms that you submit to them, i.e., I-134, DS-230, DS-156, and the DS-156K, should all be originals (just keep copies for yourself). I remember some of these forms require copies of certain things and those can be copies not originals (as I believe you need a copy of a birth certificate at some point if I am remembering correctly and you obviously can't give them your original).

Copies of cards/letters is fine - originals are not necessary. I would bring the originals of the NOA's, but bring copies so if they ask for one you can provide them with the copy (highly doubt you'll even be asked for it).

You will most likely not even be asked for any of the items you bring, but bring them with you anyway please. I'd hate to see them ask you for something and you not have it. We brought everything and were asked for nothing. Be organized as the CO's have little patience and if they ask for something, they don't want you looking through piles of paper thus, wasting their time.

You will hand in all the forms I-134, DS-230, etc., the day BEFORE the interview and will come back the following day for the actual interview.

Good luck with everything and be blessed!

Thanks. So do you mean if my appointment is scheduled for Thursday on the usvisa-info website, I'd have to bring the documents wednesday?

our actual timeline.

NO....If your appointment is scheduled for Thursday on the usvisa-info site, you go on Thursday to drop off your paperwork, then your actual interview will be ~ omg ~ last I knew they are CLOSED ON FRIDAY'S!!!! That means your interview will be on MONDAY :(:(:(

Check the Embassy website...when I was there and even before that, they were closed on Friday's :help:

I just checked the website and it says that they're closed the last Wednesday of every month and all Kenyan and American holidays. I knowwww I read somewhere in this thread that they are closed on Friday's...or that they don't conduct visa interviews on Friday's, but let's hope I'm wrong. So, that means you'd drop off your paperwork on Thursday, then your interview would be on Friday. I would call them and ask them if you have an appointment to drop off paperwork on a Thursday...would you come back on Friday for your interview or Monday?

Correction You will be interviewed on the appointment day, things changed at the Nairobi consulate, they no longer carry on interviews for 2 days, you have to carry all your documents on that day.
