Hello Fellow Nairobi Embassy-ers!

My fiance and I were APPROVED of our visa this morning!!! We seem to be the 1st people to get through the process using the new computer system. It actually went more smoothly than could have expected, I was even let into the embassy. A couple ahead of us had gone in together, so when the guards checking my fiance with the metal detector found my passport in his pocket, he asked "where is she?" and then asked me to come in. He said I could go with him, just not to the counter. So I got to sit with him, until the lady at counter 10 (blond, white American) saw us sitting holding hands and called the security guard over and said "There are petitioners in the waiting room. Who is letting US citizens in the waiting room, they are NOT allowed?!" - she then proceeded to announce that all American citizens had to leave the waiting room. So the other guy and I had to leave - thankfully, just right outside the waiting room. I could hear my fiance's name called to counter 10 and then about 10 minutes letter he came to the door smiling!!! And just like that, we had a visa!

He said she asked When we met - then asked for proof of relationship, noticed our Western Union and asked about me sending money - then about if he had ever met my parents/been to the US. He was in the process of getting the affidavit of support and photo album out of our file, when the lady said "No, I don't need those. I'm going to issue the visa!!!" - best words EVER!! :D She said our visa will be sent out today or tomorrow through DHL to Mombasa, and we should expect it by early next week, but in case of any problems to bring the receipt back to the embassy. I truly believe the individual in counter 10 looks at how confident you are, how quickly you can answer the questions, and your body language. My fiance even heard her say, " I can see a fraud marriage from a mile away!" , when she denied another couple!! So be confident, and things will go well.

If anyone currently going through the process has any questions, feel free to ask. Thank you all for your support through our long journey! Damn it feels good to be here!!! :)

I am so happy to hear all the good news! Kefa and Sarah and John and Yveline...it's all just great. Congratulations to everyone! I am shocked that they let you in Sarah...wow, looks like things change there almost on a daily basis. Let's hope when we have our interview that I will be allowed in as well. Congrats again to everyone.:dance:

I was SHOCKED when I get let in too, but honestly the all of the security guards were really nice - if you insist, I don't think getting in will be a problem. The lady who interviewed my fiance was the only one who seemed to have a problem with the American citizens in the waiting room, so if nothing else at least you can get in and wait on the shaded, soft benches right outside the waiting room! :)

Congrats on your NOA2! You'll be here in no time - the process really moves after you receive it. Good Luck with everything!

Just to let everyone know that still has to get their visa. Yveline was told to get her visa at the embassy today, but when they got there and made her wait 2.5 hours she went to the window only for them to tell her they sent it to a DHL location. One that she was right next to while getting lunch. Needless to say she was not very happy, but didn't really want to argue. She did say they were pretty rude today. She really hopes that the United States isn't always like that! She leaves back to Mauritius on Saturday so they sure as hell better have spelled her name correctly in the visa, because if they don't I am not sure what she can do. Good luck to everyone else.

So they are sending it via DHL to Mauritius for her to pick up there? Seems like they are changing everything, all the time there!

No they are sending it to a DHL location in Nairobi. They have to because it is attached to her passport.

How weird! That seems like a waste of time. But what do I know...

Hope that there aren't any problems with it! She picks it up tomorrow I guess?
