Also. She never filled out a DS-160, but it looks like it is now required. Did anyone else have to have that form?

I don't believe you need the DS-160 for any K category visas. I found this here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html DS-160: Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application (for all nonimmigrant categories except K, N, S, T, U applications)

The way I'm reading this means you don't need that form if it's a K category visa. Sound right??

Looks like thew new system requires it, but it is difficult to tell. It is all pretty confusing.

I don't think she will need it because her interview was scheduled before the date everything changed. But I agree- everything is confusing! Maybe call the embassy or state department?

She actually called the Embassy today and they told her that they had to call the "new" people to get information. They told her that she had to do the new method of payment. She has to sign up online and then go to Post Bank, instead of the Commercial Bank of Nairobi. As regards to the DS-160 I have no idea. At this time I am more concerned about no interview at all this coming Monday. A government shut down is VERY possible and it would shut the embassies down!

I just found this: Required Documentation

Two (2) Nonimmigrant Visa Applications, Form DS-156 (prepared in duplicate). NOTE: K-1/K-2 visa applicants should not fill in Form DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application [/b. Here is the link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html. I hope this helps. Also, I know it's hard, but try not to worry about the shutdown, etc. It's been looming for the longest time and it's all good so far. Just stay positive...focus on the outcome of your journey. Everything will be fine :)

xthemasterx, the embassy in Nairobi operates like that.If they want the DS-160 give it to them, all you have to loose is ink and paper.I did the duplicate DS-156k only for the officer to return one copy saying she don't need it.They can be rough coz they get alot of scams,if they need something else they will give you a yellow letter that allows you back in any tuesday or thursday at 10AM.Just make sure you have your evidence and be confident in your self,be positive, smile.Wish your fiancee best of luck at window 10 and God bless.

Thanks for everyone's help. I talked to my fiance briefly on the phone today to see how it went. She passed! :) From start to finish it only took her about two and a half hours. Two hours and 15 minutes was just waiting. She thought she was going to be taken into a room to be interviewed. She didn't realize it was like getting a drivers license! People before her were getting denied left and right, but many were for other types of visas I am sure. She said some people were treated very harshly.

She was only asked 5 questions:

When did you two meet?

When did you two meet in person?

When did he propose?

When did you two get engaged?

One more that I can't remember. VERY simple questions.

I am thinking that they were so simple because my petition was so large. They even mentioned that they don't get many that size. HA.

When she presented her forms on Monday they didn't even take the DS-230 from her and they didn't ask for the Affidavit of Support. She had to ask them if they wanted it. They also thought that was quite large. Must be why they didn't ask many questions and they didn't ask for a single bit of additional proof while she was being interviewed. We were very prepared just in case.

She gets to pick her visa up on Thursday. Good thing she gets that so quickly because she has to fly out on Saturday. Flights only go to Mauritius on Saturdays and Mondays.

I am glad there weren't any actual bumps in the road (only mentally!) because she bought her ticket for the US a month or so ago at $2000! We are getting married on May 28th. ANY delays would be pretty rough and cut it all very close. Heck she only has one week to get all her stuff together and say goodbye to her friends and family.

If anyone has any questions let me know. I hope I can help.
