I agree-- it feels like everything is very inconsistent and way more complicated than it needs to be. But yours seems to be taken care of. If you get that confirmation email you are good to go! Sarah and Kefa (on this thread) are kind of stuck right now in limbo, as the Embassy is yet again changing their procedures and scheduling system. They won't know anything about the exact changes for another week or so but have already been told there are no openings until May! So be thankful that you beat that cut off! :)

Wow............things have really changed there if they sent you that email. You guys are fine. She only needs to prepare her documents and the interview.

Does she live in Nairobi if you dont mind me asking?

We are waiting for a confirmation of the appointment and the interview, just in case. I just don't like the fact that we have to trust what someone said on the phone vs having it in writing right away. She lives in Mauritius. They only fly to Kenya on Saturdays and Mondays. She scheduled her medical on the 4th and the appointment or interview on the 11th. They told her that 7 days was plenty of time to get the medical results. We are very nervous because our wedding date has been set for May 28th for some time now!

Here is the reply we got while requesting a written appointment letter. Wouldn't even mention a date.

Embassy of the United States of America

United Nations Avenue

Gigiri, Nairobi, Kenya

Tel: 254-20-363-6622

Please use the letter that you received from NVC as notification of your file transfer to Nairobi. It has a barcode on it. Your name will be on a list of expected applicants and will match the letter from NVC. We do not send appointment letters to applicants.

Sincerely,

Immigrant Visa Unit

How strange! Did you ask that you wanted to confirm the date of your appt? Anyway- that's fine, just print that email out and if for some reasons the guards out front ask you for an appt letter, just show that email along with your NVC letter. And you could have your fiancée call once more to confirm the date. I'm sure it's fine!

I would print that email, just so if they give you a hard time then you can show it to them. We were asked for the appointment letter every time we got to a new check point it seemed like (outside the gate, before we went through security, outside the waiting room, inside the waiting room and again when we were turning in the paperwork.) Can't hurt to have it with you, plus the NVC letter of course.

Searched through old emails until I found this...I had emailed asking for a confirmation letter saying we had changed the date of the appointment. Ours had the date, but maybe the number included would help if your fiancee gets stuck outside!

Dear Katherine,

Please have your fiancé print a copy of this email to help facilitate entrance to the embassy on January 11. 2010.

We do not have access or ability to send an appointment letter as a hard copy due to the high volume of visa cases.

If he encounters problems have him call 363-6519 from the gate for assistance.

Sincerely,

Consular Section

US Embassy Nairobi

John, send your fiancee the NO2- Approval Notice. Thats what i used as my appointment letter. Once she gets at the security gate, she should tell the security guards that her case is a DHS case, thats why she is using the Approval Notice. On the second gate, she will be able to confirm that her name is on the list of appointment for that day. You can also print the email they sent you. Also have your embassy case number starting with NRB........ All the best.

Yeah that's a good idea. I am baffled though- when I emailed to ask for a confirmation of our change, they emailed right back with all the information! How can their responses be so inconsistent? Definitely keep that number handy!
