Hi Sifa

As far as i know, It is illegal in Kenya to carry someone ID( Identity Card, Passports) and I don't know how that will be viewed at the embassy.I think what matters is have the evidence, proove your case and be confident.

I am trying to figure out a few things as regards to scheduling an interview. My fiance scheduled her interview for April 11th. She did so by calling the embassy directly. They said it would be at noon. I have read on this forum that interviews take place at 7am whereas she needs to take in her packet at noon the day before the interview. Does this mean that her appointment to bring in her paperwork is on the 11th and the actual interview is on the 12th?

Also I have read numerous times that the embassy emails the petitioner to set up an interview, rather than the beneficiary setting it up. Which is accurate?

Thank you,

John

Hi John. I think you're right. She will most likely be submitting her documents at noon on the 11th, and then return for her actual interview on the 12th at either 7 or 8am. You should probably either call or email the Embassy to confirm this. Emailing would be best so that you have the response in writing. Also, at the Embassy they always ask for your appointment letter, so your fiancé actually needs a written confirmation of her scheduled appointment. Hope everything goes well for you two!

Thanks for the reply. So in your case was your fiance given the appointment or did he make the appointment himself?

John

Hey John, in my case, i made the appointment by calling the embassy and used my I-129 approval notice as my appointment letter to be allowed into the embassy. However, the US Embassy in Nairobi has changed its policies now and are currently conducting interviews in two days. The first day is presentation of documents and the the following day is the actual interview day. On the day that your fiancee is taking the packet, she will be advised what time she will be interviewed. But you can also email the embassy and confirm, usually it takes 3 business days to respond to an email. I wish you all the best in your journey and the interview too.

In our case, I received an email from the Embassy about 1 week after they received our case. The email contained the interview date and told us to follow instructions on the website for the forms. I called them a couple of days later however and asked to reschedule, so they gave me a new date over the phone, then I emailed them to get it in writing. Either way is fine! If your fiancée is scheduled for the 11th then calling was fine! Just out of curiosity, when did your fiancée call to schedule her interview?

The embassy never emailed me saying they received our case, but my fiance called a little over a week after we got our NVC notice and scheduled the interview. Never got a confirmation through email. Makes me pretty nervous. I don't trust anything that is not in writing. She called on February 24th. April 11th was the closest date she could get.

I also didnt get any email confirmation from the embassy that they have my case.I didnt even have anything in writing and i went for my interview and i was fine. Just ask your fiancee to call the embassy and confirm again all the details about the interview.

That is normal. When you call, they don't email you anything. When I called to change I asked if I would receive any change confirmation via email and they said no, all I needed was my NOA2 and letter from NVC. but i felt like you do now, so I emailed to ask for a confirmation anyway. Then, when we got to the Embassy, the guards were turning people away who did not have a written appt letter! Must just be the luck of the draw- it's different for all of us. I'm sure her appt in when they told her it is, just go ahead and email them to be sure!

also, they didn't email me saying they received our case... They just emailed with an interview date. I suppose if I had called first, I wouldn't have received anything at all, either! :) don't stress... You guys are fine!

5 days after the NVC received my case. I got the email right when it got to Kenya.

Dear John,

Please be informed that we have received your fiancee’s file, please forward her the following website to help her prepare for the interview www.nairobi.usembassy.gov download the K1 packet (visa instructions). These instructions include information on how and where to have your medical examination. Once she has all the documents listed, they may get in-touch to schedule an interview appointment.

Sincerely,
