Did anyone use a co-sponsor for the I-134? If so, did you run into any problems? I'm a recent grad but I will be starting a new job soon... just want to have my parents help out to be safe. Thanks!

I also used my parents as a co-sponsor-- no problems. I also was starting a new job and included a letter from work stating my yearly salary.

I'm so full of questions.... Has anybody had any experience going through their k1 interview with a previous B1/B2 (visitor's visa) denial? My fiancé was denied in June of this year. He was trying to attend a conference for his NGO but was told he could not because he was not married (obviously about proving ties to Kenya). He has started to worry a bit because some people are telling him that such a recent denial will look really bad in his interview, although we are only a month into our process, so his interview is most likely still months away. Any insight on this would be very helpful. Thanks! :)

I doubt it will even be mentioned. Sifa was denied 2 student visas before we applied for K-1 and they didn't say anything about it at all, although I was the same as you and that was one of my biggest worries. I have read that as long as previous tourist/student visas were denied b/c they thought you were trying to immigrate and NOT because of a misrepresentation it won't have any effect on the K1. So try not to worry :)

Awesome! That is the response I was hoping for. The Nairobi embassy is tricky (I suppose they all can be) and we have heard of so many people lying and saying they are married just to get a visitor's visa-- it works all the time. If Jack did that, he definitely would have gotten the visa to attend his organization's meeting, but he said that if he was going to get his visa it was going to be done honestly. The denial was so unfortunate and seemed to be extremely unfair since the rest of his colleagues got to go, but we knew we were going to apply for the K-1 this year, and we definitely didn't want to be caught in a lie and get barred. Then recently, after hearing some people say his denial would cause problems anyway, it felt like such a lose-lose. I'm just so glad that he made the right decision and also super relieved to hear that Sifa didn't have any trouble at all. Hope it's the same for Jack too :) Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I remember when we were standing in line waiting to go in to the Embassy the morning of the interview, Sifa was telling some of the other people around us how the process would work (since he'd been there before for the student visa interviews.) Everyone was telling us he would surely be denied because he'd had previous denials, but like I said they didn't ask one question about it or bring it up in any way. You'll be fine!! :)

A visitors Visa has less than 50% chances compared to the K-1 visa with close to 99% approval rate. Taatabunny had high expectation of getting a visitor's visa since he had all the necessary documentation only to be denied but on re-applying after almost a year, this time with very low expectations, it was approved and he was able to meet my family.

Since our case left NVC for the embassy, we are soon getting onto the bus to Nairobi for the interview and medical check up, yayyy!!

The Nairobi thread has given us great insight of what happens in Nairobi, we appreciate all the contributors' efforts!

We are soon starting to put together our package and make bookings.

I Wish all those that are waiting the best of luck!

Cheers

Thanks, AnnieMugaya!

We're still waiting for the interview date but pretty sure that Nairobi should have our package from NVC by now (it was sent on the 30th of August reportedly). It's a bit confusing how the interview date is going to be assigned, some of you said you called and scheduled it yourselves once they got your package but seems now that is not how it works anymore ???? I called Nairobi but the people who know answers to my questions isnt picking up the phone...

Anyone who has recently gone through this process have any insight for us??

Thanks so much!
