EAD has incorrect Country of Birth

We finally received Eben's EAD. The coutry of birth is wrong. They put USSR instead of South Africa. I called USCIS and was told that I would have to reapply, send the original card back and send them proof that it was their mistake. It could take up to 90 days to get a new one.

But I'm thinking that since all of the other documents have the correct country of birth, we should just ignore it and make sure it's correct on the GC. That would save us SO much time and frustration.

Any opinions?

I would make an infopass and talk to an IO. I don't think it is fair that you have to send your original card back (i.e: not being able to work) when it is their fault. Also, what you got on your EAD is most likely what you will get on your green card.

I would recommend an infopass. Don't call the misinformation line!

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

Tried InfoPass. Denver doesn't have appointments available for this kind of item. I don't think the green card will be a problem since we will have an interview before we get it. Has I said, the info on everything else has been correct.

Good god, USSR?.. I understand how you feel.. they sent out my EAD which of course USPS was nice enough to send back. Months later it pops up on the system when we checked online as returned. By the time I get the stupid EAD back I more or less had the GC. Moral of that story.. put your family name on or in the mail box if you want "all" your mail from USCIS.

One thing I did notice about the counties they put on mine.. the EAD had my country of birth as Ireland (correct).. my GC has my country of birth as Northern Ireland (not correct). N Ireland isn't actually a country anymore than Florida is! I never returned it, I needed a job too badly at that point in time I was just glad I had it!

Good Luck! :D
