3 Reasons why I voted the Democratic Ticket:

1. 8 years of Republican failed policies.

2. The economy is in the sh!tter.

3. We need someone who is serious about reducing our consumption of oil/dependency on foreign oil.

McCain was right on the surge in Iraq, he will not bring our troops home until victory has been achieved,

What exactly would symbolize victory? Who and what are we fighting?

What do you think would happen first: "victory" in this war or the US going bankrupt?

We have already achieved victory in Iraq :D

US Military Deaths

US military deaths from April through July 2007 (96, 120, 93, 67)

US military deaths in recent months:

13 in September 2008 (down 86% from same period 2007) with 106 dead in Sept. 2006 and 96 dead in Sept. 2005

13 in October 2008 (down 80% from same period 2007)

Real Estate in Iraq

Not all real estate markets are plummeting in the doom-and-gloom attitude that is prevailing in 2008. Baghdad has seen prices double over the past few years:

1) With little new construction afoot, there are far more buyers or renters than available homes in places like Karradah, a mostly Shiite area where Ali is hard-pressed to shrink his waiting list. "The business in the area is not so good now because there is high demand but not much supply," said Ali, dressed sharply in a jacket and pressed trousers. He noted that the monthly rent for a two-room apartment in Karradah, where attacks still occur, is about $400, double the price in 2006.

2) A small house in Hurriyah, a mostly Shiite neighborhood to the northwest, costs about $42,000, nearly twice as much as a year ago. Rents there have increased by a similar amount, and payment is required three to six months in advance.

3) Prices have also soared in Ghadir, a mostly Christian neighborhood. Monthly office rents of compounds can top $10,000 in Sunni-dominated Mansour, home to some embassies and foreign companies.

4) A 750-square-foot home in a lower-middle-class neighborhood costs about $150,000. In the upper-middle-class neighborhood of Karada, a 2,300-square-foot plot of land alone costs $350,000.

5) But Ranzi also has a stock of million-dollar homes, some costing as much as $3 million. These massive compounds, complete with marble floors, sparkling chandeliers and state-of-the-art security systems, are also surprisingly in demand.

6) Prices of the bigger homes have increased a more-modest 10 percent to 15 percent in recent months, Ranzi said. Among the buyers are former high-ranking military officers, doctors and members of Iraq's nouveau riche who have made their money from government contracts, lucrative business deals or in less-legal ways, such as looting and corruption.

Iraqi Stock Exchange

While the global economies sank in September and October 2008, the Iraqi exchange has performed superbly!

Iraqi Stock Market

Month of September 2008 +40%, The Iraqi Exchange consists of just 96 companies, but they are off to a great start!

US Dow Jones Industrial Average

From October 9, 2007 to October 10, 2008.....Negative 45%

October 9, 2007 = 14,164

October 10, 2008 = 7,883

Cost of Iraq War

The Iraq war’s costs represented 1 percent of GDP in the peak year of the war. World War II, with a $4.1 trillion price tag in 2008 dollars, was nearly 36 percent of GDP and the Vietnam War was 2.3 percent of GDP in that wars’ peak years. I don't think spending 1 measly percentile of our GDP is going to bankrupt us!

Here are estimated costs of major wars, in 2008 dollars, and their costs as a percentage of GDP in each of their peak years:

_American Revolution: $1.8 billion; GDP figure not available

_War of 1812: $1.2 billion; 2.2 percent

_Civil War, Union: $45.2 billion; 11.3 percent

_Civil War, Confederacy: $15.2 billion; GDP figure not available

_World War I: $253 billion; 13.6 percent

_World War II: $4.1 trillion; 35.8 percent

_Korean War: $320 billion; 4.2 percent

_Vietnam War: $686 billion; 2.3 percent

_Gulf War: $96 billion; 0.3 percent

_Iraq war: $648 billion; 1 percent

_Afghanstian/Global war on terror: $171 billion; 0.3 percent

_Post 9/11 domestic security: $33 billion; 0.1 percent

_Post 9/11 operations: $859 billion; 1.2 percent

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

ROFL

The GDP back in WW2 was the profit from sales of military arsenals to foreign allies. And, the US used 36% of it for its own endeavors. Then, there was a build up of military vessels which translate to high GDP.

GDP growth in the latest expansion was a full 40% slower than the post-World War II. Because of this, spending 1% of GDP will dramatically affect the growth.

Voted for Obama because:

1. He is not racist against Muslims, but McCain is racist against Muslims.

2. Because I am tired of republicans messing up our country.

3. Because it is time for change and I think only Obama can make change.

~As far as gay marriage and abortion issues go; I do not plan on getting involved in either of the two. To be honest with you I do not think McCain can prevent it from occuring even if he wanted to. Therefore, my decision was never based on these issues. It was based on me not wanting a racist old bag in the office.

I would have voted for McCain in 2000, Gore is an idiot, but under Karl Rove pushing for dingbat bush, ran a smear campaign against McCain and knocked him out early in South Carolina, know your history!!! McCain did vote against support of the war with Iraq, congress never did declare war, again know your history, life today would be much better if McCain did win, he does have integrity, Bush does not, Bush is a filthy liar and should be punished for his crimes and lies.

But today, McCain hired Rick Davis to run yet another smear campaign against Obama, out of context, and basically lies, been swamped for the last month with this garbage and phone calls, that was a little bit too much. Rick Davis learned from Rove, know your history. And picking Palin was a bit too much, looking at McCain, can see his days are numbered, eight years made a huge difference.

Obama is the first democrat to challenge these smears, but see many of you still believe this lies, that is your fault, no one else can take the blame for that, know your history! Certainly had my doubts about the Clinton's, those huge Chinese campaign donations were never investigated, but Hilary was a very aggressive challenger, the majority of Americans did pick Obama.

My objections to Obama is his ties with Gore and he is brainwashed by him, plus didn't take a strong stand against this phony bailout, but his is a gentleman and does show integrity so he got my vote. If he wins, plan on getting on his can to correct on these two subjects, but do agree with him on pulling our troops back, this is affecting my family members.

And what war in Iraq? It only lasted a couple of weeks with way too much collateral damage done both in property and lives, a very poor show to get rid of just one guy and going against the United Nations. Since then, it has been a police action, and with the damage Bush caused made a lot of new enemies. This is not the American way.

It's fact that since this country was formed of the office of the president has gained way too much power where presidents can start a war without even the knowledge of congress, and with a sucka$$ congress, the supreme court can be tampered with. Should limit the powers of the president just pounding a gavel over congress, so at least we have some representation.

In keeping with Obama's tendency to focus on the issues and have something hopeful and positive to say, and leave the nasty smearing to the Republicans... I voted this morning for Obama because:

1. He was right on the Iraq War from the beginning AND had the doo-dads to say so.

2. I like the changes he is proposing to our tax system. I agree with Balzac... extreme unexplained wealth is suspect.

3. He has a solid pro-environmental scorecard http://www.lcv.org/obama/obama-lcv-score-and-vote.html and will help us end our addiction to foreign oil in an enviromentally responsible fashion.

4. I believe he is extremely intelligent, even-tempered, thoughtful, well-educated, and can re-establish the US in the community of nations as a good neighbor, friend, ally, trading partner and overall respected global citizen. I believe the occupant of the White House SHOULD be smarter than the average bear, and if that makes me elitist, TFB.

5. I think Michelle Obama will make an awesome First Lady, and those two little girls are the cutest things... I love the thought of them running around the White House.

6. His stands on social issues are much closer to my own (although I would legalize gay marriage).

Those are some of my reasons. There are more, but the OP asked for 3, so I limited myself to 6

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

5. I think Michelle Obama will make an awesome First Lady

Your right, assuming Obama gets elected it will be the second time in her adult life that she is proud of her country!

The sentiments of Michelle Obama are quite common in the US. Proud of her country but disappointed in where its gone.
