we are filing for the children of my now wife.

she entered last year on a K-1 and we married withing the 90 days and now she has the Green Card.

Now the children have followed on "follow to Join" visas and we are sending in the paperwork for them.

One child is 16, the next is 12 and the last is 10.

I see the fee for the older one is $1010.

however, for the younger ones (under age 14) is the fee $930 or is it $600?

thier mother has already filed and received her Green Card, so their applications will be filed seperately.

since they will not be filing at the same time their mother did, I have the sinking feeling the fee is the higher amount of $930 and not $600.

any opinions?

thank you

Your sinking feeling is correct, especially since it's right there in the I-485 instructions:

* Filing Fee :

$930 plus a biometrics fee of $80; the fee total is $1,010

* Exceptions... Applicants under 14 years of age: - Filing with the I-485 application of at least one parent have a fee total of $600 - Not filing with the I-485 application of at least one parent have a fee total of $930.

So yes, $1,010 for the 16 year-old and $930 for the 14 year-old. Total $1,940.

The 16 year-old is $1010.

The 12 and 10 are $930 each.

Total $2870.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a related question. Can k2's get a SS number right away like k1's? Or do you have to wait for an EAD or GC?

Also, can you put off filing AOS for the kids for 6 months or so?

Submit separate checks with each application or they'll all be rejected.

Are you sure children don't pay the biometric fee?

A Warning to Green Card Holders About Voting

we took the kids to the local Soc Sec office and the office said the kids were not eligible for Soc Sec numbers unless they had EAD.

now we are filing for AOS before their 90 day entry visa as 'Follow to Join' beneficiaries expires.

I would not wait 6 months since you will probably only receive a 90 day visa for the child.

not a 90 day visa but a 90 day authorized stay period upon entry as indicated on the I-94.
