Non-issue all around. I've never seen anyone berated for saluting during the playing of the national anthem flag while not in uniform. No one is going to check your military or veteran status anyway.

I fail to see why you consider this a "Non-issue all around."

If you were active duty military, you should know that we were taught not to salute if in civilian clothes, and since I've left active duty, I've continued to follow that, and remain at attention instead.

Now, I know that I can proudly salute the flag during taps or revile, and can proudly salute during the National Anthem.

I missed the boiling controversy on this issue during a campaign season no less. That classifies it as a non-issue or an issue that was so unimportant that few have heard about the change.

I was told we were supposed to place our right hand over our hearts when not in uniform but I saw a lot guys assume the position of attention. I assume plenty of non-vets will salute as well out of confusion.

Feel free to salute but I don't think you meant to "revile" the flag. You mean reveille. I don't miss getting up that early.

And my service continues now that I am a DoD civilian. I received this news via our Operations Group 1st Sgt. Since I continue to work on and around military bases, with active duty personnel, its nice to know I can let them know I'm a veteran.
