Hi all,

So after much stress, our interview date is finally almost here! My fiance is wondering about which passport number to use on the forms...

At the time we filed the original I-129f petition, he was using a very old-school Nigerian passport. He was recently issued a new, post 9/11 compliant passport. So, on the forms when it asks for his passport number, should he put the old one that was used on the original application, or the new one which he will be travelling with?

I've been emailing the consulate with this question... sometimes they get back to me within the day, and sometimes never... it seems this is a "never" occasion.

Also, damn Nigeria, their police certificates expire after 3 months. We overlooked this because he also has one from Kenya that expires in 6 months, so we got confused... and his expired on Oct. 31, only 6 days before the interview! He's going to try tomorrow and beg the police headquarters in Lagos to give him an extension. Has this happened to anyone else before? How did you handle it? Anyone attended an interview with a slightly expired certificate before and lived to tell the tale?

If you can spare some good wishes this week, do send them my way. I'm a nervous wreck!

Thanks,

Kathleen

I think he should use his most recent passport, thats the one he will travel with. I would include a post it note and a copy of his old passport stating something to the effect of "I-129f filled with passport #____, copy enclosed. Since then a new passport has been issued (copy enclosed) and is used on all forms from this point forward."

I think this is the best way to handle the situation because the note and copy of the passports should remain with your file no matter how many people are involved in processing it. This is provide enough info for someone to look at it, look at the copies, and move on. Someone will ask why is there 2 different passport numbers, red flags etc. If the older passport is expired mention that, highlight it in the copy.

Thank you. That sounds good, I'll suggest that he do that. :)

If he is not able to get the new police certificate in time he should still go with it. Worst case scenario is that they will delay issuing the visa until he brings a new one.

Good luck

Miraculously, he got it renewed within a day! There's nothing that the right amount of cash won't get you in Nigeria. Thanks :)
