I like Circuit City due to their quiet environment, instead of Best Buy that conumes 10x more electricity with their booming stereo system when I'm trying to think about a purchase.

Did I say I used to work at Best Buy. But, all technology retailer tends to face fierce budgets due to competition. Not only that, the Engineers wants to absorb as much money from this by slowly selling all technology from a generation of their products until it has no more value. Thereby by exhausting the sales of a particular item generation which permit them to launch a new tech generation for the next wave of money making madness.

Please change that word engineers to marketing, then marketing to stockholders. Engineers like to build things that will last forever, but that would kill profiteering. Always rush to market and design it as cheap as possible.

Software engineers are far more careless and pushed a lot more than hardware engineers, recalling a product without proper testing can be very expensive. When was the last time you purchased a software product (Microsoft?) that was new and actually worked out of the box? Takes MS at least three years to get it right, just in time to make it obsolete so you have to start all over again.

Best Buy pushes their low-wage employee until they have no more sex life!

Best Buy isn't Best Buy anymore, use to go in there with internet prices and ask if they would like to tie that price, always did, not anymore. Wife wanted an MP3 player for Christmas, Best Buy wanted 200 bucks, well, $199.99, got the same exact model number from Amazon with free overnight shipping for $139.99. And extremely difficult to walk to the part of the store for an item I am looking for without being high pressured by a dozen salespersons or assistants, whatever they call them now, while trying to get back there. Same at Circuit City. And 40 bucks for a two buck USB cable? All accessories are priced way out of line. Ha, 30 bucks for an inkjet, use to include the USB cable, now 40 bucks extra, get two third full cartridges, replacements are 70 bucks, must think we are all stupid.

But whatever you buy, or how much you pay for it, worthless, when you walk out the door. Thought new vehicle prices were ridiculous, since I was in that field, with automation and mostly throwaway components, actually cost less to make a vehicle today than 30 years ago, but the prices are ten times higher.

Interesting. At the Circuit Cities around here, I almost have to go up and shake a salesperson to get their attention. I don't have that problem at Best Buy, but I agree, they aren't the bargain they once were. Yet in spite of the local CCs' customer service shortcomings (in my opinion) they aren't on the list of closings. Hmmm.

I'm the USC.

It's good for us because when the store closes, that means "liquidation"! Liquidation = Prices that cannot be beat, garunteed!

Don't get your hopes up - I've run liquidations and by the time they get to the truly bargain %-off, there's not much left...

Too bad for CC - but it's been years in the making... :(

Considering I used to work at Best Buy, anything that goes for very low bargains are usually seen first by the employees. They usually get them first. I remembered when the USB 200 GB external hard drive was around 300 dollars. Then, it came down to 20 bucks because people are not buying it and they need to get it out of inventory. Who grabbed the first several quantities? EMPLOYEES!

Yep. I think the same. Hopefully I can get some inside tipoff when the merchandise I am most interested in becomes available, if at all.

As for the Customer Service issue... bias aside and all... CC always had better training, better knowledgeable employees, and less of a supermarket feeling than the competitor. The company is definitely going to get what it deserves, but the employees are the ones that remind me its usually the workers that get shafted before all else.

Funny thing is I know where the employees will be stashing stuff to grab up after the liquidators finish today. My old store is closed today for retagging.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Sounds like Home Depot, Walmart, and so many other big box stores.

Please people do not support these businesses.

You vote with your dollar!
