Hey guys!!

I know this has probably been answered a million times but I am going to ask again and make it a million and one times :) I am doing my affidavit of support (I-134) and if I make well above the 125% povert limit do I have to get bank statements and assests statements from stocks and bonds. I am thinking the answer is no but just want to make sure. I put my annual income, I am going to bring my 2007/2008 tax returns, I have a letter frm my employer, I am going to bring past three copies of pay checks. I also put down how much I think my current home is worth and how much I owe on it. (Is this part necessary?) If I do put my house information should I get a copy of how much I owe on my mortgage or just omit the whole house thing all together? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

I believe you only need prof of those assets if you intend on claiming it as part of your income. So, if you didn't make above the 125% range, you could include them to meet that level. But since you say you make well above, I really wouldn't bother. But if it would make you feel more comfortable and wouldn't care you much extra work, it can't hurt your case!

I'm the USC and I make more than the 125%. I still had to provide 2008 tax returns (the real one) but, I also included tax transcripts from 2006-2008 along with copies of my 2008 W2s. Those things specifically were requested... the rest I gathered b/c I didn't want there to be any questions! lol In addition, I provided a letter from the bank stating info about my account (when it opened, total amount of deposits for past 12 months), I also had my past 6 (most recent) pay stubs, a printout from my online banking with accounts and balances, as well as letter from my employer stating that I'm an employee in "good standing" and that I make X amount of money as well as a form stating that I will be returning next school year. Lastly, I also included info for my retirement accounts... printouts from accessing my accounts online.

As for the information regardng your home's worth, yes, it is required b/c the info is on the I-134 and you do need to know about how much you still owe on the property.

Isn't this FUN!!??!! lol

I can't beleive I need to bring print outs of my 401k plan. What a pain in the butt. I am just going to print the stements that I can see online, I would have no idea who to contact to get the information "certified" from the people who hold my 401k. I am just going to submit my 1099 that i received at the end of 2008 showing what my principal balance was on my home at that time. I think that should be good enough. I guess I will go get my checking account bank letter and savings account, better to be safe than sorry. Just seems crazy to me if we earn over the limit why all that other stuff is necessary. Government lilkes to know your whole life story I guess.

That's all I did!!! I didn't print out the individual accounts, I just printed out an overall amount that could be seen from tha main website page. I didn't get it notarized or anything. Just printed it straight from the website!

Congrats you guys!

We made it to Montreal! Hopefully I'll have good news tomorrow :) Wish me luck!

Good luck!!!!!!

APPROVED!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. You were right, it was so easy! It was the traveling and the waiting that was the hardest part. The interview literally took 5 minutes, she praised us on our neat paperwork, and just basically read through everything! She didn't even ask us how we met, she just read the paper we submitted with the I-129F and said, "wow you've been corresponding since 2005?" I'll write a review later tonight when I get home.

Congrats!!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
