K-1 people waiting for interviews at Montreal

Hello all!

Does anyone know if form DS-156K expires. I'm still waiting for my packet 3 (was sent April 17th) and decided to start on the forms, but then I saw that they assign a bar code  Is that a problem?

I also filled out DS-230 and DS-156K Anyone else got a head start?

You mean the DS-156. The DS-156K is the 'promise to marry my fiance form' that does not expire, you can take it with you to interview.

The DS-160 and DS-156 both are done on line, both need to be printed in duplicate (DS160 application and confirmation page), and I was told by Montreal that they are good for several months.

Think about it, they are telling people that interviews take 4-6 months from Packet 3 being sent in, and they ask you to complete most of those forms at that time...so you should be good doing them now and a few months from now, submitting them.

FYI, MTL also told me that the medical is good for 1 year prior to interview :)

Good Luck!!!!

I have completed the Ds-230 and Ds-156 (not sure if still needed but did it anyways) and DS-156K for my fiance, that way all he has to do is sign the DS-230 and mail it in with the checklist. Looks like our packet 3 was sent out at the same time, my fiance has not received it yet either.

Thank you for your quick reply, but it seems that we are not looking at the same thing for the Ds-156K. On the one I filled out (10-2007 version), it says "nonimmigrant fiancé(e) visa application". Only asks for my name and the name of my children, and lists the documents that they need to see. Only the part that needs to be filled out in front on an officer mentions the intent to marry. We are talking about the same form right?

I hope that I didn't fillout DS-156 too soon and that it will still be good when I have my interview! That's they opnly form that I'm worried about since a bar code is attached to it...

Thanks for the heads up on the medical! ;)

Just don't sign 156K... that's the one you have to sign in front of the consular officer! :)

We started filling out forms back in February, but didn't date them until later. I think our earliest date on a form was from the beginning of March and we had an interview on April 16... and all was good. :) Filling out forms ahead of time good, becuase then you can keep using one form to fill out another form since they all seem to ask the same questions in different words and in different orders.

Yes they are very similar! Thanks!

The DS 156k? That's just the one where you fill in like 3 pieces of information and sign in front of the officer at the interview right. That's the one you are talking about? I just downloaded a new version of the form off the USCIS website, because I wanted to type in my info opposed to writing it down in my chicken scratch hand writing. I seriously doubt they track who was sent what form and what bar code was given to who... But I could be wrong. I'll let you know if I get yelled at at the interview next week

Talked to the DoS yesterday and the operator confirmed that we can send everything in on our own, since the packet was lost and so we did it arrived in Montreal this morning... Many thanks to those of you helped us out.

So I guess that constitutes Packet 3 being returned. I'll call and see in a few days... I won't relax until I know they've accepted it, even though the operator at DoS confirmed that they would... Montreal still hasn't replied to our 2 emails from Monday. ...

Yes it sure is!! Though fiance seems to think we will have to wait 4-6 months for an interview. I told him that it looks like it is running about 2 months from when u send in your package 3, I told him interview will be in July most likely. He doesn't believe me, I think I am going to bet him!! LOL! I told him the standard government answer is 4-6 months, I know this because I give that answer to people on a daily basis and I work for the US government TEE HEE!!

That happened to me a few times, where I sent an email to MTL and I never rec'd a reply. I had to resend the same email a couple of times, and then I would get a reply within an hour. Just resend it. Chances are, if there is no response within a few days, it's lost in cyber land or some person opened it to deal with it, and never did.

I'm not saying that my method worked, but a few of us were pests with emails and requests, and got dates within weeks :)

Good luck :)

Oh yes, we did - all three times. weirder than not getting a reply was the first reply we did get - the one line "please click here" http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/reciprocity/index.htm " (which, upon clicking, makes little sense)... my Fiance' asked "clairfy please" - and got no response. Later that day, I emailed them and asked them to resend Packet 3 to Fiance' & I - and got no reply.

I'm sure they are nice... they could make it up to us by giving us an early interview date

Filed: K-1 Visa Country: Canada
Timeline
That happened to me a few times, where I sent an email to MTL and I never rec'd a reply. I had to resend the same email a couple of times, and then I would get a reply within an hour. Just resend it. Chances are, if there is no response within a few days, it's lost in cyber land or some person opened it to deal with it, and never did.

I'm not saying that my method worked, but a few of us were pests with emails and requests, and got dates within weeks :)

Good luck :)

I'm sure that had a lot to do with it!! Squeaky Wheel gets the grease ;-) whats the worst they can do? Make us wait some more??
