I'm gonna get all my proof organized, and will then post what I have, so you guys can give me feedback :) I know we have to have originals of everything, and a copy made for them to keep. Do the copies need to be notarized, or are they happy just viewing originals?

Ill post it this week :)

Omg, 3 weeks to interview!!!!!! I could burst from excitment :)

You know, I just realized that the consulate kept my original divorce certificate and I don't have time to contact them and wait for them to get it back to me. Why would they keep an original anyway?!

So in order to get a marriage license in about 2 weeks, I have had to contact someone that lives in the city that I got divorced in and have her get it for me and expresspost it. Really really hoping she comes through on this!!! I am sure I didn't need that extra bunch of stress right now :P

  • 7/7/08 -- I-129f sent

  • 12/8/08 -- received at NVC
  • 12/22/08 -- packet 3 (with packet 4 attachment instead of checklist :P)
  • 12/29/08 -- packet 3 sent back with bits and pieces that I pulled together to make up a packet 3
  • 1/5/09 -- actual packet 3 received, but found out by via e-mail that they were satisfied with what I had already provided
  • 2/10/09 -- found out via call to DoS that my interview is scheduled!
  • 3/16/09 -- interview!!!! APROVED!!!
  • 4/7/09 -- MOVE!!!!!!!!
Crossed at Detroit/Windsor Tunnel... pretty painless, about 45 minutes, inexperienced officer, asked for and received EA stamp

Quick question: As far as evidence goes, do they want to see evidence of an ongoing relationship AFTER the I-129F was filed, or do they want evidence from the beginning of the relationship until now? Or for the last 2 years? My fiance is coming to Montreal with me, so i'm not sure how much additional evidence they will ask for, but I'd like to be prepared.

They like to see evidence of a continuing relationship. If your fiance is coming with you to the interview that should be more than enough. You can clarify any questions in person. If you had trips to see one another between the date of filing and the interview, I'd bring some proof the trips with you.

I just printed off my mileage statement from Alaska Airlines. Of course they never ask to see any of it.

I wasn't asked for any evidence at all, and I was at the interview alone even.

I prepared evidence that was as recent as possible though (past 4 or 5 months - phone bills, trip evidence, etc), because they may want to confirm that you still have an ongoing relationship. In my interview, she noted that it seemed like I as in Chicago almost every weekend based on my US visits listed... that was the extent of that topic.

oh, and for some reason I am thinking the info for what to bring doesn't specify this, but I was asked for a letter similar to the one with the I-129f, confirming my fiance's commitment to marrying me and completing the process. I don't remember seeing that requirement in any info that they sent me, but I had seen it mentioned here, so I had one and was asked for it, so thanks to whoever mentioned that!!!

Just so you guys know about the time thing - it always says 8:30 - BUT if you go line up at 7 a.m., the doors open at around 7:30 a.m. and it's first come first serve.... so if you're one of the first you're out by 10 a.m.

My advice is to go early so you are one of the first!

Wow... out by 10??!! I figured it might be 12 or so. We're already planning being there by 6:40ish. If I tell him 6:30, we'll be there by 6:45. :P Again, more words of wisdom from the amazing SapphireDreams! :)

Event Date

Yep, good advice! I was there about 6:30, and was the first one there. I was out by about 9:45! Also, maybe if you're the first in line you have a better chance of having the same interviewer as me (who was so awesome and friendly) because maybe she's the one that's always ready to start first. Besides, it's not like you're going to be sleeping that morning anyway :D

The intent to marry form....my lawyer just had my fiance resign the original one, with a recent date (last week) and notarized it. Is that ok?

for us it doesnt really matter, but at some consulates overseas its recommended because they are harder on the interview. from all the interview reviews I have read here, they are pretty laid back as long as your packet was good, so your fiance doesnt need to be there, most people dont get asked for evidence, but bring some just incase.

I think that's all we need to do... Its just the same as last time with newer dates on it. Does it need to be notarized?

I didn't have an actual form... but rather a letter. I guess it is covered by a form as well though. But when I was asked for each of the specific items required I was asked if I have "an up to date letter stating his intent to marry me".
