I have a question. My fiance received packet 3 and filled out DS-230 and checklist and mailed it to Montreal. She scheduled her medical exam for April 8. Does she take packet 3 to her medical exam. She doesn't have a interview appointment letter yet? and she said it takes about 2 hours to fill out form DS-160 online. Anybody has encountered that long of time while filling it out and she hasn't submitted it yet. and She said she needs to get digital picture to upload it. I understand these pictures need to be Canadian Passport standard. Is that right?

Your fiancee can send back packet 3 before getting the medical as on the checklist it is mentioned "arrange for the medical".

For the medical, she will need to bring the first page of the packet 3 that says "we are pleased blablabla" with the Montreal Case # MTL----------.

In the packet 3, she needs to send back to Montreal the checklist filled out, dated and signed and the DS 230 Part 1. She has to submit DS160 online but print copies and the confirmation.

The best way to have the picture is to scan an ID picture and upload it.

It took a long time to fill out but you can save and finish it later.

Well i couldn't do it guys..I couldn't hold out to Friday to call on check on the interview. I got "Sarah", who I have talked to before. She is very nice. There wasn't one schedule so I asked her, (I told her I didn't want to keep calling and bothering them ) do they book throughout the month and she said no, usually in the first week of each month is when they schedule the next batch. Then they don't do anymore usually till the next month. So she said for me to wait till after the first week of April and hopefully my date will be scheduled then. YEAH! I feel better now, so I can wait. I can concentrate on selling my properties and getting other things done. Oh, and quick qestion, has anyone booked their room through hotwire (excellent rates) and stayed longer at their hotel then they originally booked at the same rate? Thanks

That's great to hear and good information! Sounds true because I found out about my interview at the beginning of February for the following month.

In terms of Hotwire - no the hotel will not honour the price the next night unless you re-book through Hotwire again. Hotwire is like using a travel agent, so the rate is specially priced. You would need to book again through Hotwire if you plan to stay an extra night at the cheaper rate. I mean it wouldn't hurt to ask the hotel, but I wouldn't count on it.

She can just bring the first page of Packet 3 to the medical. They just need her MTL# that is on the first page.

The DS 160 took me about an hour to fill out as well because I found it a bit buggy. They do ask for a lot of information, so if it's not handy I can see how it would take that long. She need a digital image for the form and she can use her passport photo that she gets for the interview and just scan it. They must be US Standard *not* Canadian.

Hi, I haven't done my medical yet, I plan on staying in Montreal a few days before my interview to get the medical done at that time. The DS-160 took me about an hour to fill out online. It only allows you so much time and then it times out. I didn't get to the point that it did that. It allows you ample time to fill it out. As far as the picture goes, you can continue without one, when the form first came out you couldn't. Now it does let you continue without one. At the end you print off a confirmation sheet and it tell you to bring it to the interview along with a picture. So I just plan on having an extra one taken to attach to the confirmation letter. It says this on the screen after you send it. I have confirmed this with the consulate and was told the same thing. Good luck.

I knew we should be able to continue without the picture but it gave me an error message and the button NEXT was not an option if no picture was uploaded

THANKS Sapphire, I figured that about Hotwire. It just with them you pay upfront and if we didn't stay the extra day it says no refunds. I guess I will just take my chances.

she needs to bring these items to the medical exam

4 US size pictures (3 will be used at the medical exam)

Letter from the consulate including case number (not the interview letter)

Medical records booklet

Passport or 2 proofs of identity

And of course money to pay for the exam.

For the DS-160, yes it can take a long time. The form does have quite a lot of questions and it keeps timing out, so she need to save very often otherwise she will have to restart from the beginning every time. So yes it can take quite a while to fill out (took mine approximately 2 hours also).

for the picture on the DS-160, she can either scan a US size picture or just upload it if it is a picture taken with a home digital camera. (note that with both choices, the picture needs to comply with the specifications)

Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.

That is weird. Although when I first went online to do it I loaded up my picture and it said it didn't meet requirements so it wouldn't let me continue. Then for two days I couldn't get on the website to do it. Then on the third day, it let me on, and it let me try again with a different picture and it still didn't meet requirements but this time it allowed me to continued. I assumed they were down for maintenance making changes to the online form.

I was a little nervious sending it without the picture but the confirmation printed off with directions to bring to the consulate with a picture attached. I then emailed the consulate and they said everything is good to go.

So I guess everyone who sent their packet 3 a few weeks ago is going to be nerveous at each beginning of the month. That is good to know though so if we're not scheduled the first week of April then we have another month to kill and wait for May

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but May is unrealistic. I would aim for June for you, perhaps MAYBE even July.

It makes it easier to wait if you set yourself up for realistic expectations. I sent my packet 3 in January 20th and am still waiting for an interview. I am HOPING for April (VERY slim chance) but think May is a better bet. One of the Montreal operators even told me maybe JUNE. I think he had no clue though.

September 11th, 2004 - Met in Asia

May 2007 - Engaged in Hawaii!!

June 2008 - I-129F Petition

June (I think) 2008 - NOA1

October 2008 - NOA2 (P3 sent to wrong consulate by accident)

December 2008 - NON-legal wedding ceremony in Honduras

January 19th, 2009 - P3 finally arrives to correct consulate AND me!!

January 19th, 2009 - "Overnighted" P3 back same day. I am so efficient!!

January 23rd, 2009 - Montreal finally gets it. "Overnight" my a**!! Money refunded to me from Canada Post...ASAH!

March 27th, 2009 - Notified by phone call of interview date

March 31, 2009 - Interview Letter received in mail (P4)

April 6th, 2009 - Medical

Thank you everyone for the reply. I read on the photo instruction page that pictures need to be Canadian size. I don't know why it says that. I would think it should be US standard size.

From my understand first of April for May/June appointments. I think April is pretty well a done deal, but you never know. You and I are only a week apart form the packet 3. I got an email from the consulate today

Please disregard our previous response. Your file is pending at our office and is in queue for appointment scheduling. As soon as a date is available we will mail you a letter giving you the date and time of the interview.

Regards,

Operator 5

Keeping my fingers crossed for a May appointment! Good luck on yours.

I can still hope right? Who knows, some people got their interview 2 months later! June is fine too... But I'd rather aim at May first. If it's not May, I'll aim for June :)

Can we all start a timeline and indicate when we send in the packet 3 and when we receive packet 4 and interview date? I think it would be helpful to everyone waiting for their interview.

There is already a list being kept that indicates all milestone dates...select

Immigration Timelines from the pull-down menu above...then select

Visa Display Options...
