According to multiple posts i've read regarding this issue, my understanding is that your case is automatically extended by USCIS. As long as it is still active (ie. waiting for your interview) it won't expire on you. No need to worry about that!

You can call the Department of State to get information regarding your file. My finance called and was told when the case was received by the NVC, left the NVC and and when the consulate recorded receiving the file. You can also call or e-mail the consulate and ask if they have received your application and if they have sent your packet out yet. I find e-mailing the easiest way to communicate, but others have had problems getting responses. Just make sure you put your case number in the subject line. Hope that helps!

Can anyone who has already been to the interview clarify something for me:

How does the line actually form outside the consulate building?

From my understanding the entrance is on the south side off Rue-St.Alexandre (not Blvd Renee Levesque) and there should be some clear signage indicating the consulate. But is there a clear place to start a line? I assume that I'll be among the first people there between 6:30-6:45, so I won't have the benefit of joining a line unless someone even more hardcore is waiting there first.

One more week to go!

^^ I'm sure the line will just happen naturally at the door.

I'm getting excited. In exactly 1 weeks time I should be finishing up my interview - I can't believe how fast the last few months have flown by.

Yeah I was the first there at 7am, and just stood outside the door. It's actually not that clear that it's the consulate, I figured there'd be some big flags or something but you can't tell until you get really close. When my Dad dropped me off I was like are you SURE this is the right place?

That is true! Mine expired a few weeks before my interview, and they had automatically extended it 4 more months.

I found a picture of the entrance off google image search--It's a double-door with the address number overhead (1155) and the US Consular seal (bald eagle).

Does anyone think going before 7am is worth it? I am staying on the same block as the consulate so I can go as early as necessary.

You should be pretty safe at 7... even if there is 1 or 2 people in front of you, you'll still all be in the 1st group going up the elevator.

There is a big round sign saying US Consulate General above the door, so you shouldn't have any problems identifying the building =)

Also the entrance is off Rue St. Alexandre. And there will be a bunch of papers taped to the doors and windows stating what you can bring in and things to have with you, this will also help to identify that you are at the right place.

I wouldn't show up any later than 7, from what we've read and from our own experience the line got pretty long by 7:15...like instantly, lol. Before 7 there was only 3 of us, then at 7:15 BAM 12 more people showed up.

GOOD LUCK!!

Quick q - it might be somewhere in this thread... but don't feel like searching...

Does my Xpresspost envelope need the "signature required" sticker?

I bought my envelope at lunch, but didn't get the sticker.

It doesn't need it, it's for your own peace of mind to make sure it gets to your address safely.

I addressed mine to my work, just because Canada Post delivers during working hours and if they deliver it to your home and no one is there to sign for it, they bring it back to the post office and you have to go get it another day.

What kind of envelope is it? Don't they go by weight? how will they know what to charge you if you don't know the weight?

Thanks Jill - that's a really good idea... but unfortunately our receptionist is not very good with the mail... stuff goes missing all the time or she takes forever to hand out the mail. I think I'll just send it to my house and pick it up at the post office... sadly that is more reliable.

Poprocks - its a prepaid Xpresspost Envelope and no it does not go by weight. You can pretty much just fill them up as much as you can and send them. They are pretty ideal for heavy items actually - It was $11 something with tax, which isn't that bad.

I called the Dept of State today, they confirmed that my packet 3 was rec'd March 5th and i'm just waiting for an interview date. I forgot to ask if they noted my file for a request of a May interview date. I will do that next time I call...

yeah!!!
