The way my k1 process has been going with all the delays mistakes etc. we have not set an exact date. Other than to say 2 days after i use the visa lol. Just going to have a quickie wedding at his parents house, his dad will officiate, and we'll have a "proper" wedding next year on our anniversary. i'm to scared to actually plan anything and then have to cancel it all if we have any more visa issues. :(

I need to take a poll please. Our original, preferred wedding date is April 9th. I'm not feeling too confident we'll be able to make that work with Montreal's scheduling situation. I already have deposits with vendors for April 9th, who will allow us to change our date and not forfeit our deposit, so long as they're given sufficient notice. If we decide to push our wedding date out, I don't think we be in any better predicament in May, or June for that matter, and I don't want to have to do this again (push our date back). I would like to know what everyone's gut feelings (obviously no one know for sure) are on August 9th. With a P3 log date of 11/25/09, do you feel that an 8/9/10 wedding date is safe? I would like to plan a date we can feel pretty darn comfortable with so our friends and family can make arrangements. Thanks for your opinions :)

my packet 3 log date was also Nov 25 and we are getting married July 18. I think that is more than reasonable for you to plan a wedding on August 9 - maybe that is my wishful thinking but i'm really hoping that we will be scheduled for an interview in March.

I would love to know what people think about this actually, because I'm logged with a PC date of 12/09/09 .. and our wedding has deposits down for April 25th, 2010.

come february, If you don't get a March Interview, then I know I am probably not, and may not for april either so wedding would be out for April 25th, 2010 .. so Im going to keep an eye on you. :)

Good luck to you...and honestly to me August 9th sounds like plenty of time..but I am just guessing.

Thanks for this Sapphire :) it makes me feel a little better...it's been a tough week! At least my fiance is coming up for the weekend as I am moving out of our condo and he is going to be taking some stuff home with him; including my summer clothes! My wedding dress is actually in Connecticut, so that's why i am really hoping for a March interview...i need to start my fittings soon!

Thanks all for your advice. I hate having to wait longer, but this is the path we chose I suppose. We originally didn't want two ceremonies if possible (the legal and then ceremony for family), but I need to be able to plan, especially since we're having a destination wedding in San Francisco. So I think we may have a quickie, just the two of us (and the officiant) ceremony, and then plan our big wedding ceremony in front of our family and friends for August 9th, 2010. We'd celebrate our anniversary in August. I know many couples do something similar, I'm just having a difficult time wrapping my mind around having two. Won't already exchanging vows deminish the ceremony we'd like to recognize as "our wedding day"? I don't know...just thoughts. If we don't have any photographic evedince of our "legal" ceremony when he comes after he receives his visa (*fingers crossed*), will this hurt AOS? I haven't done too much research on AOS just yet, but will begin nosing around soon.

I know exactly what you're going through, because been through that same thought process. When we got engaged, we tried to figure out a way to qualify for any visa but the K-1, because I did not want to have two ceremonies. When we figured out that this is visa type that was our option, we agreed to two ceremonies with some conditions. We picked a date for our religious ceremony, and will celebrate our anniversary at that time. I was worried about the vows thing too, but found out that you don't necessarily have to say vows to be married. In most states, all you have to say is "I do" or "I will", so we are saving the "to have and to hold" vows for our ceremony with our families. We also are not exchanging rings at our civil ceremony, and I'm not changing my name. We are going to try to have our maid of honor and best man as witnesses to the civil ceremony, because they'd be our people signing the certificate at the religious ceremony. Other than that, we don't want people to associate our wedding with the civil ceremony - that's essentially between us and the government, so no other family or friends.

As for AOS, you'll have a certified marriage license filed with a state. From what I can tell from the research I've done, that's what they want for proof anyway. I also know two couples who did the same thing, and they did not exchange rings or change names or have people at their ceremonies.

May 7, 2009 - 129F submitted

April 6, 2010 - Visa Delivered/POE (Peace Bridge)

April 23, 2010 - Civil Ceremony

May 1, 2010 - AOS/EAD Application submitted

July 12, 2010 - EAD Approved (Card Production Email #1 at 4:02 pm)

July 26, 2010 - EAD RECEIVED

August 5, 2010 - GREEN CARD APPROVED!!

August 21, 2010 - Green card arrives

November 13, 2010 - Catholic ceremony

July 2, 2012 - ROC submitted to VSC

August 21, 2012 - Biometrics

February 27, 2013 - ROC Approved

Only one more step to go!

Jmd77, that's good to know. After talking about it with my fiance a bit more today, our "Plan B" (as were still going to try for April 9th until 2nd week in February, then we'll change to August 9th) sounds a lot like your plan. We won't exchange vows, except ackowledging him as my husband and me as his wife (I asked if I could just say uh-huh or yeppers and was actually told it didn't matter what I said as long as it was positive acknowledgement), and that's that. His ring was ready for me to pick up today, so I have that and we were planning on saving that, and my wedding band, until the friends/family ceremony. Will anyone say anything during AOS interview if he's not wearing a ring? I briefly thought of my new last name and wasn't sure how I'd handle that. I suppose I could just wait until August to make the changes to all necessary documents, not a big deal. The more I think about our possible new plan, the better I feel. Geeze...they sure don't make any part of this easy on a person eh? (Eh? I see my Canadian fiance is rubbing off a bit ;))

The waiting is the hardest part. NVC said our package arrived there on Thursday, Jan. 14. The woman at NVC asked for my fiance's email address. Does the Montreal consulate email the packet 3 to my fiance' and mail it as well?

Just wanted to comment on the changing your name thing. Look into how hard it will be to change it all at a later date. You won't be able to change the name on your Greencard until you apply for a new one once the 2 year conditions are up...And, it might be a bit complicated to have your driver's license in your maiden name with your greencard in your married name...especially when it comes to banking, jobs etc. I originally didn't want to acknowledge our civil wedding since we are having a large Catholic wedding after. But, at the end of the day, it was getting too complicated to keep my maiden name temporarily and then change every later. Plus, I was able to just apply for a new driver's license, bank card, credit card, jobs and everything in my married name without having to do a transition. My email is in my maiden name and my facebook is in my maiden name so on the surface to people who don't know me well, I still use my maiden name.

The only weird thing has been at my new job. My work email and everything is my married name, so when I email friends and family using my work email sometimes they get a bit thrown off!

But yeah, ultimately, I totally thought I would still call my husband my fiance, and that I'd wait to change my name and all that, but it really hasn't been a huge deal or made me feel like my big wedding is going to be less memorable or special. We don't have a typical wedding story and I kind of like it that way :)

Oh and we plan to celebrate both dates!! Why not! We're going to get our rings engraved with both dates inside :) We don't have the rings yet.

My sister and I were talking yesterday about how I should just have my religious ceremony even if I don't have the "paperwork" for the wedding. Then get married legally by the justice of the peace when the visa does come through. I had to laugh at her logic. Um, I don't want to get our adjustment of status messed up because of our "wedding pictures" being before any legal wedding.

I just saw another Montreal interview waiter that got his Packet 3 in 16 days from the consulate receiving their petition from the NVC. Yeah! I am more hopeful that if the wait is closer to 4 months, then my fiance' will get his interview sometime in June before our hopeful date of July 11, 2010. I am going to call NVC tomorrow to see if my petition has been sent to Montreal. They said they had it yesterday, but it was finished being processed/entered into their computers.
