i read somewhere the USCIS page that the confirmation receipt is important coz it has the barcode that they need to bring out your file.i dont know if this is right, correct me if im wrong.

i think u can do it again and submit ds160 and print the confirmation page so at least u are sure that u got something to show them up on your interview.

The application has the barcode on it too... I think the confirmation page is a 'condensed' version.

I worry, because if you re-do the DS-160 on line, it logs you twice... it actually registers with their system. I think being logged in under two separate visa's would cause an issue, no?

I will take my lawyers advise, anyone know what number i'm calling to verify this type of info, and if they have rec'd my packet 3?

Thanks

I actually completed my DS160 twice - I noticed an error on the one I originally filled out so, not really thinking, I uploaded my earlier application, edited it and re-printed and it obviously gave me a new barcode.

I emailed them about it, but they responded back and told me to fill out the DS156 too (which i did and had nothing to do with it!) and haven't said anything about it being a problem.... I'm awaiting to hear back again... but I have a feeling it shouldn't be a problem... I'm just going to bring both confirmations and explain when I get there.

The DS156 is completed, but it's not to be signed until you get to interview right? I actually recall signing something like this in the beginning with our lawyer, but the bottom of the form says 'do not write in this area, consulate officer will assist you)....

With my packet 3 I only sent in my completed DS230's and a copy of the DS 160's... actually I think I also sent in the DS156 unsigned. Is this correct?

The DS156K is the one that you sign in front of the officer.

The DS 156 is a different form, seems to be new - you fill it out online and then it generates a PDF to print out and sign.

Nice and simple... NOT.

I really hope i didn't mess up my DS160, but eh... nothing I can do about it now. Seems like its still a pretty new process and they are trying to get all their ducks in a row.

Is there anywhere online to check on the K1 case status??

I was able to do this with the I-129F receipt... Dos anyone know if there is a website where I can check based on my consulate case # (beginning with MTL...)

Help!

You can email them. That's the only way to keep track.

True or False...

You can pick up your Visa from the Montreal office once approved the day or 2 after being approved?

I have read somewhere that they will only mail it to people and I've read somewhere else that people have gone back a day or 2 later and picked it up. <sigh>

Anyone have insight to this?

Thanks!

Ok, now i'm really confused  HAHA!

I have the DS160 done, and the 156K, what is the DS156???

Also, do you all recommend that I call or email to get an update on the status of my packet 3 being rec'd? Where do I email... cause I sent them an email last week asking about the DS160 mess up and have yet to hear back from them. How long do they generally get back to you in???

Thanks guys.... :star:

Hey 'July09Bride' I was looking at your timelines, you are right where we are :star: Keep in touch and let me know if you hear from them. I checked Canada Post on line today and it said that my package was delivered to Consulate yesterday.

I actually forgot to write the actual dept... but it has my MTL# on it... they'll forward appropriatly, no?

I think it depends on your interviewer. Some people have been able to, most not. Don't count on it, it doesn't seem that it happens often.

For the couple of people that were asking about calling/checking on status... after you have a case number from the consulate, you can call the Department of State at 202 663 1225 ( press 1, 0, 4, 3, 0 ). IMO the people that take those calls have been the best part of this process! Super friendly and helpful and able to tell you whether your packet 3 is missing something or if it's ok and you're on the list for an interview. They gave me my interview date about a week before I got the letter even.

  • 7/7/08 -- I-129f sent
  • 7/9/08 -- I-129f received at CSC
  • 7/24/08 -- NOA1 (finally!)
  • 12/2/08 -- NOA2 (WOOT!!!!)
  • 12/8/08 -- received at NVC
  • 12/22/08 -- packet 3 (with packet 4 attachment instead of checklist :P)
  • 12/29/08 -- packet 3 sent back with bits and pieces that I pulled together to make up a packet 3
  • 1/5/09 -- actual packet 3 received, but found out by via e-mail that they were satisfied with what I had already provided
  • 2/10/09 -- found out via call to DoS that my interview is scheduled!
  • 3/16/09 -- interview!!!! APROVED!!!
  • 4/7/09 -- MOVE!!!!!!!!
Crossed at Detroit/Windsor Tunnel... pretty painless, about 45 minutes, inexperienced officer, asked for and received EA stamp
  • 4/13/09 -- Married in New Orleans!!!!!!!!
  • 5/30/09 -- Filed AOS/AP/EAD
  • 6/1/09 -- AOS etc received in Chicago
