I just called and we have an appointment date too- November 20th at 8:00am.

I called me fiance and you would think he'd be excited but he wants me to post-pone the interview because we changed our wedding date to April 29th, and so obviously he can't activate his VISA until February 1st. He says he doesn't want to go that long without seeing me so he'd rather put off the interview.

I am crying right now . . .

If you do that, you could actually lose about 3 or 4 months for your interview. You very well could go back to the bottom. In fact, I believe that in order to change your date you need a "valid" reason, not just "I don't like the date."

As for seeing him, the USC can still go to Canada. . . . . . .

I don't know what to do. I told him I couldn't talk to him anymore and hung up the phone. Since March we had been planning a New Year's Day wedding, and then we went with April 29th because it seemed like we wouldn't get an interview until 2010.

I don't even know who to call to try and re-schedule.

After the visa is issued you have a 6 month time frame to use it so getting it in November and not using it till February is still an option unless there is some other reason he doesn't want to go to the interview in November that I missed.

I think it was more of the "they didn't want to be apart that long" deal. Cause after the interview, she can't cross into the US without activating the K1 visa.

Montreal Interviewer: "What do you have in common with each other?"

Peachey: "We're REALLY weird."

Montreal Interviewer (incredulously to me): "Do you agree with that?"

<I think back to several days before the interview. Driving through the country, passing a field with cows...>

Peachey: "MOOOO! MOOOOO! Does this make me weird?"

Me: "No, well yes. Here, let me roll down the windows so they can hear you better!"

Peachey: "MOOOOO!!!!"

<back to interview>

Me: "Yes, yes I do."

If he's game, you could always have the "legal" wedding sooner, and the "ceremony" wedding in April. Just a thought!

Yeah! You just need to legally show you got married and have the real wedding in April :)

Also, maybe hes also in shock... I find men can be silly (sorry you all men :P) and not really respond the way we want them to respond when we give them big news like this!!!! The fiance's grand response to "WE HAVE AN INTERVIEW DATE!!!!!" is, "Ok" :P

My advice is just to maybe not discuss it today and give you and him time to think. Im sure he will come around!!! I am happy for you to have an interview date and I really hope you guys will be able to work things out :)

To be totally honest, mine acted the same way. I'm the USC and he's the Canadian. I was SOOOO excited about the interview and he was all freaked out about it. Took him a bit of time to settle in to realize what having a date and the actual date really meant.

I must also say, that I had my HEART set on April 24th as a weddign date. THis year, it fell on a Friday (which was perfect), b/c I've always wanted a Friday wedding. Well, when we found out that we probably couldn't have it, I was CRUSHED! So, we re-thought out our plan and went with July 17 (found outher meanings and reasons for July 17 that were almost as good as our reasons for April 24). Turns out, we could have had April 24th. So, I guess what I'm trying to tell you here is, give it a day or so. Talk with him again and explain what changing the date means... an additional 3-4 month wait for an interview and even THAT isn't guaranteed (so you could be SOL for the April 29th as well!), plus, now you can go back to your New Year's wedding and have your dream!

My heart goes out to you... (L)

It will work out.

For us, we just split our wedding into a small legal service - followed by the ceremony we wanted months later. If you guys can't/don't want to do it that way, it's still possible.

We understand the emotions you're going through tho! No more crying! It's a happy day!

Don't make me link more cute kittens.... :-P

God, don't make Varba link to more kittens.

Arabella. I forgot that you have only 3 months to use your K1 and thus dates are important. Sorry about that. I just want you to be happy and your fiance to be happy that you got a date.

Please don't make Varba bring out the kittens -- it digresses rapidly from there!

This sh!t is all just too complicated isn't it? Nothing like trying to plan a wedding when you have no idea when you going to be "allowed" to get married. Unless the invites have been sent out I'd be switching it all back to January 1st and telling him to get his a$$ to that interview. Sorry he's being so difficult .......this process is crazy and stressful enough without having the SO adding to it. I'm sure when you both take a deep breath you'll be able to talk and figure it out.

LOL!!!

Yeah Arabella, dont cry anymore! You will ruin your make up and have rudolph nose all day long :P

I think you also dont need to activate your K1 visa right away -- in fact there is someone who posted in either this forum or the main consulate forum about it. Might be tricky but worth a consideration!

If you are in the Toronto area, I will buy you coffee to celebrate your date!!!!! In fact, anyone in TO, KnJ and I are going to meet a local Tims and toast timbits in celebration :D

AND its likely a response out of shock!!!!!

Ugh, I'm so disappointed! :o:( Here you all are getting interview dates, even some that sent off packet 3 after I did (I sent it on September 25th), and I just called and I don't have an interview date yet. Since I didn't get scheduled today, I hope that doesn't mean I won't be in this batch... I don't want to wait months! I was really hoping to be able to move before the year is over, but I'm getting skeptical that it'll be possible...
