K-1 people waiting for interviews at Montreal

Sent off my first (of many) email to Montreal today.

Yay for automated responses. However, this one I had to ponder at:

Q1: I have sent multiple inquiries, but have not gotten a response. Why?

A: Our hard-working Immigrant Visa Unit receives hundreds of inquiries every month. However, experience has shown some applicants call on the phone, send an e-mail and send a fax, all asking the same question or a variation of that question. Regrettably, we do not have a separate unit dedicated specifically to the hundreds of emails and faxes we receive every month; the staff who answer your inquiries are also responsible for processing the thousands of Immigrant Visa applications we receive every year. Thus, in order to serve applicants faster, we simply cannot continue to respond to inquiries requesting confirmation of receipt of documents or faxes. In addition, we hope that this list of FAQs will further ease this burden. We will truly attempt to answer every legitimate question not covered by these FAQs, and do so as quickly as possible.

I completely understand now. It must take a lot of energy for their five employees to answer my measly email and process my visa application while afk-healbotting in ToGC.

Damn. Who else prays for a server fail on maintenance day? :innocent:

(I missed the nerdspeak from earlier... had to contribute.)

so emailing them to see if they have my documents and I'm on a waiting list is futile? I'm confused now. I'm pretty sure I have a right to make sure they got my freaken stuff and I'm on a 24957209541371 month waiting list. F'ing Montreal. :ranting:

I knew emailing them was useless. I just have to do something. I refuse to sit here and think about the fact that, based on everyone else's timeline, I won't be seeing an interview until... March? April? May?

If I don't have an interview until April or May I am seriously going to have a ###### FIT. Like, February/March possibilities piss me off enough already, but there's NO WAY I'm putting up with April/May. I'm getting screwed enough waiting this long as it is.

I've all but given up on the idea of being able to have a legal wedding on the date we planned (January 23, 2010) at this point.

Probably asked and answered a million times already, but what are the realistic risks to having a ceremony-only (i.e. non-legal) ceremony? Our Pastor is already onboard with the idea if necessary.

Edit: Sam and Ben, you're probably looking at January or February, realistically.

None if you don't bring photos of it to the interview, or mention it, or say you are married. Its only if USCIS see's hears that you got married (even if its just a ceremony) that you will have issues because they will deny you.

I'm kind of thankful my prefered date for legal marriage is May 15th, 2010.

Now, I dont want to have to wait till late February/Early March for an interview, but I think it's going to be that way, sadly.

Unless they're trying to fix the consulate's problems right now.

The way I try to think of it, now that I've had my little freak out and actually gave it some thought... lol.. is that we filed out original petition in mid-April. It's VERY unlikely that it will take a whole year for this process to complete itself. i've been looking on the VJ timelines for Canadians and it seems anyone who has had a time line over 300 or so days has had some sort of reason or delay for it.

Im' still hoping for a February interview at the latest. I know that would be a possible long shot, but I've GOT to have hope for something. I've come up with another possible wedding date of March 21st, 2010. SURELY I can get that one... lol I've already given up on January 10th, and February 10th, and Jan. 23, and Feb 20th. Something here has GOT to work out

I don't know... I started looking up previous timelines for Canadians at MTL too, but the thing is... has it ever been this bad? A year ago, hell, even six months ago, wasn't it a three month wait for an interview? (Even that seemed far too long.)

Realistically, if folks who filed in July/August won't be seeing interviews until January, I don't see March as being too far from the mark. And I don't like that in the least, but at this point, I guess I'd rather be pleasantly surprised by a sooner date.

I feel for any of you that had dates in mind... I'm quite glad we set the mindset of just getting married on our own and then sharing in the party when his sister and her fiance get married in April. Now, who knows, heh.

The thing I'm personally concerned about is having to delay and scramble... I've mentioned it before, but it's not even the dates of the wedding I care about anymore... it's the fact that I don't have a place to live at the end of January. I can make due for a couple of weeks at my parents house in Feb if need be, but i'd have to quit my job since they live an hour and a 1/2 away... so any longer than that, and it's going to become a really bad mess. :(

Not to mention, I'm really REALLY ready to move... blah I hate it here.

I really think this is so ridiculous. I wish there were laws in place that made this unacceptable.

I agree wholeheartedly with that. My own job is in shambles - my employers are struggling to keep me as long as possible, but they (like I) assumed I'd be gone in a month or so, so any delay likely means I'm out of a job soon.

I'm sorry to hear about the housing arrangement; that's tough. I'm quite lucky to still be living at home in that way.

Yes it has, at this time last year exactly. There were a few people on here who sent back P3 in September who got their interviews in January. I sent back my P3 in mid-November and didn't find out about my interview until almost the end of February. This is not uncommon or different.

I think going through the process, we underestimate the time things take. Some people get through really fast, others a bit longer.

I would've thought from beginning-mid Sept to the end of Jan would be a reasonable allowance for the length of time. It's sad that 4 months is a 'common' wait for an interview. I don't know if I'm getting more worried due to finding things out about MTL's wait times on VJ or not... like it all seems bad news... but I know I've seriously had to stop looking at info on other consulates. lol

so, the other day i emailed the senator of Michigan, giving my fiance's address of course and he just got a release form in the mail asking signed permission for the senators office to look into our case.

i think we'll wait 1 more month before sending it out because that will put us to almost 4 months and thats when montreal tells you to harass them.

so anyone in michigan who has been waiting for 4 months your senator will look into your case.

we're talking people who submitted in July or August who haven't got interviews yet and may be looking at September. I'm one of them. I just want to get the freak down there, I'm setting a tentative ceremony date for late May and have a courthouse document signing ASAP when I get across.

Missa, do you mean that you'll wait one more month so that your wait time for an interview ends up being 3 months (presuming another month between when you hear about your interview date and the actual date)? I guess I'm just about there...
