Aaaaaaaah.... I'm in hazed out Friday afternoon mode -- sarcasm is lost on this 'delicate' brain matter!

:)

So Varba called today and we have a date!.. except they can't tell us when... very strange, but they'll be mailing my packet 4 on October 18, which is a Sunday...

congrats you guys! although, you know...odd circumstances, but as long as you're getting your packet 4!

Bogartnoir... you were being funny, right? You're always so nice I didn't think you were making fun of 'delicate FRench ears'....

:)

I also wanted to ask you guys, as a CR1 person, how long was it supposed to take for a K1? I ahd heard that they were processed really, really fast. But just reading Peachy and Varba's timeline -- it looks like it'll be about 8-10 month processing time. If you had known it was going to be this long -- would you guys have done it differently?

I'm just curious and trying to wile away the Friday afternoon before a long weekend afternoon at work...

LGG

sarcasm and lots of eyerolls.

i really don't appreciate it when someone insults my mother-tongue, frankly, whilst calling their french ears "delicate". rather snotty.

Thanks Huggles...

I was always curious -- I wanted to be married first as I didn't think I could handle the stress of immigration AND wedding details. I was right.

:)

Congrats!! But... that is sooo strange. Did you try e-mailing the consulate? Maybe they'll tell you.

To answer Lgg, when I was going through the K-1 process they were taking 6-9 months... I had mine, from filling to interview in just under 7 months. Things are a little ridiculous now! I feel for you guys (F)

Just called DOS for the first time and spoke to a nice lady who told me that my fiancee "qualified for an interview" on October 2 and our interview will most likely be scheduled in "November for December, or December for January." She said that most scheduling gets done in the first week of the month, so I should call the DOS again at the end of the 1st week of November to see if we've been scheduled.

A bit more promising than I originally thought.. hope she knows what she's talking about! :star:

Spanish is my mother tongue as well - I am half Cuban. however, I didn't find anything offensive or snotty about her post.

dont take me wrong .. i have nothing against spanish ...just that its very hard when people have a strong accent to understand something... and the language barrier from just french to english is just again harder if someone talk a 3rd language on top of it... no offense taken please...

I hope she is right, but I was told in August that I would probably be scheduled for September or October. If they hired more ppl again maybe they will finally speed up but right now I'm sitting at the end of Nov, so I'm thinking Peachy and Varba will probably be in december..hopefully at the beginning of it! (and they are still July P3rs) Oh and it seems like for MTL most of the scheduling does get done within the last week and first week of the month for K1's.

Its wierd that they can tell you that you have a date but can't tell you what the date is...

I also don't understand why they wouldn't divulge the date over the phone. Isn't that the point to being able to call?

Waiting an extra couple of weeks for the letter to come in the mail when the date is listed right there on their computers seems somewhat silly.

And although that information from DoS sounds reassuring... I don't see how that'd be possible with so many lingering July/Aug P3ers kicking around. I'm going to start my calling/emailing campaign next week and see where that gets me. Even routine answers will feel better than nothing, I suppose.

they haven't given me ANY valuable information over the phone except, no, we don't have a date scheduled.

and i guess we are august filers. i kept saying we were july because that's when we sent the silly packet 3. which of course was the last day of july. on a friday. sigh. JUST GIMME A SIGN!

and i wish we didn't have more paperwork. shortly after us is when they implemented all the paperwork for the p3-ers. we still have to fill out the 156-k or whatever.

does anyone who did this old school know what's in packet 4 so i can just be done with it???

thanks, guys.

I thought all of the documents listed/sent back for P3 (and the ones on hold until the interview) were easy enough to fill out... My biggest issue was that I decided to fill them all out after a long day of traveling back home from FL, and was incredibly worried about doing it all correctly. Double- and triple-checking the forms probably took 4x as long as actually filling them out! Haha.

Hrrm.. I emailed the consulate to ask if the passport did indeed have to be valid for 1 year after the interview (I thought it was 6 months and my fiancee's passport expires in July 2010).

They said yes, we should get it renewed, and re-submit the paperwork with the new passport #.

I'm leaning towards not following that advice, and just bringing the new passport and updated forms to the interview. I've already been told that I am on the "waiting list" for an interview and I get the feeling that resubmitting paperwork to the consulate has the potential of screwing things up (i.e. them "resetting" our case).

Any thoughts?

Yeah I dod! Just got the letter in the mail yesterday, let me type off what it says for you! Its 3 pages long, first page is how to contact them if you arent ready to immigrate in the next 6 months, location of the consulate, bring $131 in cash with you, that you need to bring your medical. Then it says:

Please bring to your interview the original and one copy of the following documents as applicable, for each applicant:

- The appointment letter showing the date and time of your interview

- Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you plan to enter the United States

- Birth certificate

- Adoption decree(s)

- Marriage certificate

- Death and/or divorce certificate

- Police Certificates issued within one year of the appointment

- Court records

- Military records

- Evidence of domicile

- Job offer letter (for employment based visas)

- Affidavit of support

- Medical examination

- Intent to marry letter (k1)

- Two photographs (color)

- A Canada Post Xpressport mailer size 314mm x 394mm (12"x15")

Now they don't mention it because the new packets are suppose to include the other forms but you will also need to bring a copy of your DS160 confirmation page (I'm also bringing a copy of the DS160 application) 2 copies of the DS156, and 1 copy of the DS156k (the one you sign) because we didnt have to send these forms back with our stuff.

It also has a notice on it that says you are not allowed to bring in: Food and beverages, weapons or tools, briefcases, backpacks, luggage, large purses, electronics or recording equipment of any kind (laptops, cellphones, PDAs, MP3 plaayers etc), oversized strollers, nail filers or nail polish.

Damn...can't do my nails at the consulate lol.

It is, and it's the one thing I'm worried about for our interview.

Ben lives with his family, and that's where we'll be living for quite some time. So outside of statements coming in his name to that address, and proof of his long-standing employment in the area... we don't really have anything else to show. No lease, mortgage or anything else. I was thinking of having his mother write up a short letter explaining her offer of my staying there following our marriage, and their current living situation. Think this will suffice?
