Hi everyone,

So I'm expecting Packet 3 next week. I just want to make sure what I need to send back. I know from another thread that it says we're supposed to send back everything, but when you e-mail Montreal, they only say DS 230 part 1 and the checklist and bring the rest with us to the interview (including the DS 160 confirmation page). Is that right? Thanks!

Tina

Send back exactly what they request on the cover sheet that they send you (even if it feels like you're ending duplicates, or redundant forms.. better too much than too little!).

So if we're supposed to send in our two copies of DS 156, then what do we bring with us to the interview? I'm just asking because I think I'm now short one passport photo. I originally had 3 for the medical, one for DS 156. I didn't know we need to have original photos for both copies of DS 156. Or do we?

Thanks.

I got a response from Montreal regarding which items are to be sent back. Apparently we're supposed to send the items that are highlighted. Which are those? Thanks!

By the way, I find it hard to believe that Montreal takes a long time to respond to questions, such as what's the status of my case. I know my case is in the system now. I just wanted to know when it will be mailed. Per DoS, packet 3 looks like it's ready to go, but why couldn't it be mailed out today rather than Monday??

I still need to call DoS

If I don't get packet 3 by next Friday I'll probably call them... since Tina&Roland's package got there the day after mine, so I would assume mine's logged and on its way.

Well, I guess I'll see.

I don't really have the money to call them or the patience today.

Same reason they don't give us interview dates months in advance? Because they want to drive us all mental?

Hey there - just got my packet 3 and here is what we need to return immediately:

Checklist

DS-230

DS-160 (confirmation receipt)

DS-156

DS-156K

And the DS-160 is at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv but you may want to wait till you get the Packet 3 before you fill that out.

Uhhh moment of panic (M.O.P)

reading over my copy of checklist version "updated 01/16/09"

It states:

#1 complete and return Form DS-230 Part I. But it says to complete online and print 2 copies and the confirmation receipt. ...

#2. obtain the documents (without sending them in) ...

#3. "Once we have rececived and processed the completed Form DS-230, Part I and your document checklist, we will send you an appointment letter....

___

In other words, what you are sending back, for P3 (the actual K-1 application) is a checklist and form DS-230 Part I. You complete the form online. They receive it electronically.

The confirmation receipt comes with you to (Montreal) consulate, and presumably every thing else you have ever sent or received from the US government.

Can someone sanity check this??

This is not the petition stage but the K-1 applicant stage. 156K etc was first stage, my checklist says nothing about sending in these documents.

hm why do i suddenly not have edit access to my post? I made an error -- YES I sent back 156 etc. the only thing I didn't send back was confirmation receipt.

So I want to know whether I should haul my butt to the post office tomorrow morning... :sleepy:

Don't worry! Montreal recently changed their packet 3's (in August I believe) and now it seems that they want all the documents at once. It sounds like you were given the older version, meaning you followed the instructions just fine. Did you ever e-mail and confirm they received your packet and put you on the interview waiting list? Its not essential but it might put your mind at ease. It says in the packet not too, but just ignore it

whew ok. I thought it miiight be the case that they changed the checklist or something. I got such old forms.. I actually printed off the newer 156K etc. (which I assume won't be a problem! lol)

K. I will email next week between 2 and 3 pm.

Thanks Hugglebuggles, I can now end my M.O.P.
