K-1 people waiting for interviews at Montreal

Hey all!! So my fiance and I decided to book a hotel in Montreal (even though he lives outside Montreal) for the interview. Reason being: they are freaking closing the bridge near his house and there is goign to be a huge detour to get into the city so he said lets just be safe than sorry don't want to be stressed out super early in the morning on the way to the interview.

So anyways, my question is this: If check out time is at noon, should we check out before we go to the consulate? We were hoping to just check out after the interview. If worse case scenario it is getting close to the check out time I (the USC) could just leave to go check out. What do you all think? Any guidance would be appreciated. I think we are going to be out of there before 11, but I am nervous about it.

I think you'll be fine to check out after the interview, to be safe ask for a late checkout! Most if not all hotels offer a late check out. As long as you go early (before 7am) you should be out by 10!

That's what we did. Asked for a late checkout... I think we asked for 1 (and got it, no problem). That way, we were at the consulate by 6:40, walking out the doors at 9:30 (in mid-April 2009). It was nice to go back to the hotel... he slept and I posted our interview info here on VJ! LOL

Thanks to everyone who replied, we are now awaiting packet 3 in the mail again, and have been told by the consulate (through email) to resubmit. Our lawyer has prepared a note that we are to include asking them to please expedite the process for us because they lost our first package, so I'd suggest to everyone who has had theirs lost as well, to make a note on top of your paperwork pointing this out. Hopefully it won't take another 3 months because it's already gone on too long!!

I'm wishing everyone luck on getting August interviews... good luck!

That's a good idea...even though they normally do not expedite, it may actually work in a case like yours... they may make a note to bump you. You never know :) We got lucky and got scheduled within 3 weeks of sending in Packet 3...

Good Luck!

Hi guys,

I was just wondering what is the number to call to find out if an interview date is set up? I see alot of CR1 interview dates set up for August... I wonder if any of the K1's got anything for August.

Thanks so much!!!

My certified birth certificate took less than two weeks (the registrar's office is in Thunder Bay, I think)... RCMP check was a week (though my mailing address was Ottawa).

Related interview question (that's likely been asked 80 000 times already): Is it mandatory that the US citizen attend the interview? Circumstances may dictate that I do it alone, which I'm cool with, but still-wanted to ask/be aware of ahead of time...

Thanks :)

Nope. The USC does not have to go. I think they (interviewers) like it, because what better proof can you show than a real live breathing human being??!! But, it is not required.

I went (I'm the USC), b/c I'm nosey. I also wanted to know what he was going through and what the experience was like for him. But, we also deal with the good and the bad better when we're together. PLUS, I'm the paper organizer of the bunch. So, without me, he would have been screwed. LOL

haha-I gotchya re: being the official filing cabinet between the two of you :)

I'm all good to go/have stalked the info via this site to feel pretty ok going this alone if circumstances dictate that that's how it's gotta be... I just wanted to know if being alone at the interview will present an issue and/or is unusual... kinda can't find too much about that happening, so curiosity hath kicked in.

Many people go alone... Canada is a 'low risk' country for fraud, there is a very small percentage for issue. Most of the time, spouses come for moral support. My fiance came for support and we had a very nice interview...the lady (CO) joked with us the entire time. There were several people there that day 'flying solo' who all got their approvals.

Good luck to all waiting in interviews :)

Hello all you VJers!

Toronto Guy & I have been enjoying our long visit together, and have been busy dealing with all types of real life. Its funny, now that we don't have an internet-based relationship, I am not on the computer as much in the evening ;-)

Last night we were up til 1230 booking hotels and planning out route... I'm the only driver and it looks like a long road. He has promised to entertain me and Fiona (my 4 y/o)... we're looking at a trip to Atlanta (from Asheville, NC) to get my dad's truck, and then back to Asheville to sleep, and then from Asheville to Montreal - via the Adirondacks ;-) I'm glad that the truck has satellite radio!!

We are arriving in Montreal Monday afternoon/evening/night and will be staying right downtown ($48 a night, found through Kayak.com). Tuesday will be working/touring/finding the consulate and mapping our route, including potty breaks and 4 y/o 6 AM meltdown preparations  Wednesday is the big day (guess the 4 couples will be racing to see who gets there first? :lol) and then we are staying til checkout on Friday - then on to Toronto, where we are staying in N. York at a really nice hotel ($34USD/night THANK YOU Hotwire). Hopefully we'll have the visa by the next week and will be on our way.

Papers are almost together, just need to finish assembling/copying my I-134. We're starting to pack and sweat ;-) Assembling some evidence, just in case my presence is not convincing enough

We can't believe our interview is next week!!!!! But we are so glad to have spent so much time together while waiting, it's been truly amazing and rewarding.

So, refresh the memory - who all has an interview on the 8th?

Best of luck to everyone who has an interview next week!!!

Hello Kritsin and Toronto Guy!!! Our interview is next Wednesday as well. I am flying up to Montreal Friday morning and staying until Wednesday night. My fiance and I are going to be staying in the city on Tuesday night becausee of some bridge construction they are having from his town into the city. So while we are there, goign to go to the jazz festival since that will be going on. You and the other 2 couples will probably beat us to the consulate. My fiance doesn;t believe me that we have to be there so early. I told him HONEY I AM TELLING YOU 7am no later than that. So we shall see, need to work my female charm on him to make sure we are there early lol :) We have all our papers ready just waiting for Wednesday, once the visa is in hand he is moving down :)
