I sent the I-129F to CSC on 30 October. Yeah! So like any diligent VJ user, I filled in my VisaJourney timeline and it gave me back this statement:

"Based on timeline data, your I129f may be adjudicated between March 16, 2009 and March 21, 2009*."

What does adjudicated mean?? Does that mean, that if all goes smoothly, my fiance can get on a plane after this date?

Consulate : Naples, Italy

From what I've gathered from other posts, that is your expected NOA2 date. According to your filing date, it's what would make the most sense.

Oh, ok. So let me get this right... NOA2 basically means that he gets his K1 visa and can come to America to marry? Or is there another step (i.e. getting called to do an interview, etc.)?

Adjudicated means your case with USCIS is decided (either approved or not) - when USCIS decides/adjudicates your petition (lets assume they approve it), it get's forwarded to NVC and then forwarded to the Consulate/Embassy where your fiancé lives.

It means the CO will determine whether or not to approve the petition.

If the petition is approved, it will be sent to the NVC, who will then forward it to the proper Embassy.

This does not mean a visa will be granted, and is the start of another process of collecting evidence, paperwork, medicals, and finally, an interview.

You have a LONG way to go.

Not quite. CO = Consular officer, so CO's don't approve petitions. USCIS "Adjudicators" do. "Adjudication" in this context is just the process the petition goes through at a USCIS service center. The positive adjudication outcome is an "approved" petition or "NOA2" but that's not the only possible outcome. Check the step by step guide for what comes after NOA2 so you can be prepared for the next steps in the process.

There's handy "immigration dictionary" link you'll want to check out next time you don't understand a term you see here on VJ.
