I can see that you ae extremely bitter, and also extremely selfish. too bad for you.

Bitter about what. My wife has been here 4 1/2 years and has been a U.S. citizen since May 12th. I'm done with all this BS.

Then what is your problem with protecting future immigrants?

So why didn't they just come right out and call it the "Evil Men Petitioner Act," since that's all it is.

I would call that comment being slightly bitter

I'm glad you shared those stories, as there was some arguing that there were no instances of Congress getting any "evidence" of things of this nature happening.

I think it's great that the government is trying to protect women from becoming victims of abuse while using an international marriage broker.... my issue here is:

WHY ARE THOSE THAT AREN'T USING AN IMB BEING REGULATED???

I watched the show on A&E about Anastasia and Indle King up there in Washington. The part you forgot in your story was that Anastasia went back to Kyrgyzstan to leave Indle because she wasn't happy with him. He flew there to convince her to return with him, and she did. That's when he killed her. He didn't kidnap her, he flew to her home and talked to her family and convinced them all that he wanted to provide a good life and marriage for their daughter. So, she went back.

That's the root of the issue here. It's not that there are bad men who are taking advantage of women through international marriage brokers, because there are. That's happening all the time. But, it's also happening to normal every-day American women too. How many women here are in abusive relationships? Too many.

I hope IMBRA curbs the horror stories like those above, but a background check that disqualifies men, just based on previous history, is not going to stop women from being abused. When women from poor countries agree to marry men that they've never even met, some of them are going to be abused. However, once they realize they're in abusive relationships and flee, no amount of government regualtion can stop them from "going back" for more.

The only thing these regulations will do is unnecessarily delay those who get caught up in the system during implementation. Even if IMBRA only stops one woman from being abused, it will be worth it. I agree that women should be protected from men with violent and abusive records, and to do that, you can't "loophole" those not using an IMB because the abusers will simply stop using IMBs. That's why the government, instead of passing regulations on international marriages, should do a better job once the women get here, not before they arrive. I applaud their efforts to be pro-active, but a re-active response in this case is more applicable. Educate the women on their rights once they're here, that they do have the right to leave men that are abusive and they don't have to stay with them just to stay in the US. If Anastasia would've stayed in Kyrgyzstan with her family, she still would be alive today.

I’ve heard many accounts of women in abusive relationships going back for more. ####### is that all about?

I don’t wonder why the government passed IMBRA. I wonder why they effectuated it with being ready to properly implement it. (Perfect example of government snafu.)

I’ve read a lot of negative opinions about IMBRA on the Internet. However, it seems that most of the people complaining are either international marriage brokers or they are visa applicants whose timeframe for processing is being delayed as IMBRA is being implemented. (I fit the latter.)

Whether IMBRA is more of a feel good law or an evil men petitioner act or a method of stopping abuse or a visa snafu, it’s something some of us must cope with. I just hope the implementation process begins to progress sooner than later.

Surely there are not many people out there who think it’s wrong to try to protect people from abusive relationships…

If a woman shoots her beau in a heated argument, without witnesses, she has defended herself. If a man shoots his girl in a heated argument, without witnesses, it’s first-degree murder. I understand how some people can question the merits of IMBRA.
