In speaking with a Russian friend, she believe that neither candidate has Russia's best interests in mind. Have to say, I have a hard time disagreeing. Neither candidate seems willing to talk about how complicated the Russia/Georgia issue really is, and she's angry that neither candidate has pointed out that it was Georgia who attacked first. She made a great point: Imagine if the rest of the world condemned our attack on Afghanistan as completely unprovoked, completely ignoring the 9/11 attacks. (It's not a perfect analogy, but I see her point.)

So while Europe seems to be pretty warm towards Obama, both candidates seem to leave Russians feeling cold. Or at least this is my impression. What's everyone's other half's saying?

And I know there are some here who refuse to vote, but for everyone else please make sure you set some time aside on Tuesday to make your voice heard. I voted early, so I'm totally screwed if Obama eats a baby on national television over the next 2 days. :D

I also think the US perception of Russia is negative in general, so a pro-Russia candidate wouldn't really get much support.

Agreed, although I don't think it's necessary for a candidate to be "pro-Russia." I'd just like to see one of them say "it's a complex issue that cannot be easily summed up with 'Russian aggression.'" I can't picture McCain saying this, but I was disappointed when Obama passed up several opportunities to help Americans understand. Especially given his "I'll sit down with anyone" stance.

DanielParul, I think India is sorely mistaken that McCain would be in their corner. The Bush administration has backed Pakistan time and time again as one of our leading allies on the so-called war on terror, and McCain has backed this policy 100%. If it ever came down to India or Pakistan, McCain shows every indication that he would side with Pakistan.

I would kind of hope that anyone running for the Presidency of the United States would have America's best interests in mind, not Russia.

US Foreign Policy for at least the last 20 years has been the support of pro-western governments in the Baltics, Ukraine and Georgia. That is unlikely to change under any administration.

I don't think anyone would argue this point. But it's not mutually exclusive to also cooperate or at least be on friendly terms with other countries like Russia. I hope that unlike our current President, the next President understands that sometimes it takes humility and engagement to advance the best interests of the US.

My wife realizes no matter who is Pres, it's not really going to affect us either way.

But, keep in mind..... Sarah Palin can see Russia from her house!

My wife thinks McCain is too old and Obama is not a good choice either... She votes (if she could) for NEITHER...

She feels the same way about Yushenko, Yanukovich and Tymeshenko as well, that none are fit for service

Most of Russians in Russia are all pro Obama,

here alot are pro McCain...

Here is my story. I've lived problem free life, payed my taxes. One day I decided to marry this girl. But to do so would require her to come to US of A, and so it started. My problem free live turned in to free problems from USCIS! Sure things turned to unsure, certain dates turned to aproximation within months. All logical thinking was out the door, as I filed my papers withing famous Vermont Centre!

Its easily Obama! They both had to condem Russia its politics  If one would of condemded Georgia because of general American views it would of hurt either canidate. I feel alot more that Mcain is really against Russia because of his age ad the cold war. I feel the Russia Georgia conflict was not nearly as big a deal to Obama. I do not think it really matters because Obama is going to double the electoral college in points tomorrow over MCain

Took me a bit to figure out what the hell the subject line meant (:

Anyway - why would any candidate for any office in the U.S. have the best interests of Russia, Ukraine, or Georgia in mind??

Any excuse you can come up with eventually leads to, "because it's in the interest of the United States" - the fact that something MAY ALSO be in some OTHER country's best interest is purely fortuitous for that country.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

My wife expressed her like for Clinton during the primaries and at that time informed me we had to vote as a family,(read vote her way or else). I on the other hand like to wait for the debates to see which candidate is unable to listen and answer the question that was asked not keep repeating the same rhetoric. Personally I feel that this country (USA) needs to reevaluate its election system. Drop the electoral college, give every candidate an equal chance to get elected( why cant we have 3rd party candidates on every ballot), the person with the most votes wins. It seems simple and works all over the world. Back to the subject I agree with AK. This country has enough internal issues that need to be addressed now that to worry about who attacked who and what everyone else in the world is up to. Our government should mind it own business until we are called upon to help.
