Eeeep! My surprise visit was almost ruined!

I posted before about planning to surprise DH by visiting him in Michigan on Thursday. I was telling my grandparents and they told me this story about their friend who went to same city I am going to to visit her fiance and when she got there she found out that her fiance had gone to Canada to visit her! Needless to say that made me very nervous.

So tonight I was talking to DH on the phone about an exam I know he has on Friday and I asked, "When is it again?" He paused a minute and said "Thursday. Or Friday- yea Friday." Uh oh. Is he planning on visiting me, I wondered?

So I made up this story about how the couple I work for (as a nanny) have to go out of town Thursday so I am staying overnight with the kids. Well then he had to spill the beans and sure enough he had planned to visit me on Thursday! We would have passed each other on the highway!!

So I just wrote his best friend to see if he can keep my DH occupied on Thursday so I will at least know that he is in the city.

What a crisis I just averted :blink:

2008-01-02 : Married in Canada.

2008-01-07 : DH returns to USA.

2008-04-20 : Finally received marriage certificate from the province and filed 1-130 Petition.

2008-07-08 : I-130 Approved!

2008-09-15 : Received DS-230 and I-864.

2008-10-14: Mailed DS-230 and I-864

2008-10-30: DS-230 and I-864 received by NVC

2008-11-04: RFE

2008-11-18: Overnighted missing documents to NVC

2008-11-26: Case Complete at NVC!!

2008-03-02: Medical in Toronto

2009-03-23: Interview! Approved!

2009-04-04: The big move. POE: Blue Water Bridge. All went well.

2009-04-16: SSN arrives in the mail.

2009-04-24: PR card arrives in the mail.

I did that once too. the joke was one me though because hubby hadn't showered in 3 days, had a full grown beard and house reeking of smoked salmon. ugh.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for helping me be prepared to cross into the USA! I crossed with no hassel at all: just said I was visiting my husband, the POE officer asked what he was doing in the states, and when I said he was studying the officer recognized the school and let me right on through! 3 minutes, maximum! My husband was so surprised and we had a great weekend!
