I love this forum and am busy reading through all of it but I am posting my situation here so that I can get some fresh responses.

I visited india early this year and got married in January.

I quit my job so that i could go to India for an extended period of time and get married.

So, I haven't worked all year and i am planning to bring my parents in as joint sponsors.

They have a retirement income (from social security) of about $17,000/year and they have $50,000 savings and $20 life insurance that can be cashed and other stocks of about $5000. They have no mortgage and minimal expenses.

The household size is 3, so the poverty line ($17,600 x 1.25) = $22,000.

Can the combined savings money make up for the $5000 shortfall ?

My 2006 tax return showed a profit of $60,000 from a sold business transaction but the 2007 tax return showed zero income.

Or should I go about trying to find someone in the family with a solid income of over $50k to be a joint sponsor.

So, my questions are:

1) Can social security income be used to show income. Do they look badly upon it?

2) Can a $5,000 dollar shortfall be made up for be only $50,000 liquid cash and $30-$35,000 more of sellable stocks/insurance policies etc ?

3) Should i find another joint sponsor if steps (1) or (2) might jeopardize my application.

I am very worried because my financial situation and tax returns are not very good at the moment.

It's my own fault but that's in the past, and I need to move forward and fix things.

Please help

Thx

If you can't find a more affluent co-sponsor, the only thing you can do is submit what you've come up with, and hope for the best. In the meantime, it would help if you found new employment so you could show some income.
