Why yes! I would want our kid to learn Tagalog, Spanish and perhaps French or even other languages as well as English.

Where in San Diego are you at? I used to live in Chula Vista 25 years ago. You might be too young to know, but I was an officer of COPAO (Council of Pilipino American Organizations) of San Diego County in 1978 - 1980.

Yeah, I think Chula Vista, east of the 805, is one of the fastest growing areas in San Diego County. I still come down there every now and then to visit friends and play golf at Chula Vista Muni and Bonita Golf Club. You know, when I first got to San Diego, that area where Plaza Bonita is now used to be the Bonita Golf Club. They tore down the golf course and built a new one farther east on Sweetwater Road. Wow, I miss San Diego and I agree - it's America's Finest City!

Yes of course.. But right now, my son is only 2 years old, we are just speaking one language to him to avoid confusion.. But when he turns 3 and he can talk a lot, we will teach him how to speak tagalog.. Kids can learn the language easily..

He plays with arabic kids, so he might learn and understand arabic someday. He is a very smart and happy kid.

IMHO, I disagree with you. I think if you talk english, tagalog or your dialet since he was a baby, he would not be confussed. He would learn that and understand. It is your choice, but I think he may have a bit harder time learning it.

My step son understands tagalog but does not speak it. he did speak it when he first came to the USA and he has many english friends, so he does not speak it to them.

I wish he would start again to speak tagalog again.

I know how to speak Ilonggo but I am not fluent. But definitely, I will let my kids learn how to speak my native tongue. My fiance is learning how to speak Tagalog already as well as learning few words. He even suggested that our kids should learn how to speak our native tongue (he is half-Italian). Hahahaha.... I am trying to learn Italian language too. Ciao! :bonk:
