At your K-1 visa interview, I understand you're supposed to bring evidence of your relationship (emails, phone bills, photos, copy of engagement ring receipt, etc.) How much did you bring? Did the consulate officer even look at it or just conduct the interview? Do they keep all the stuff?

I did a search and came up empty handed on this topic.

Thanks in advance!

The more the better is the best answer...and no, the consulate officer won't keep any of it.

Load them with this. You are right that it's common for the immigration officers not to look at the material at the interview but you want to be prepared anyway...I kind of assumed that people look at the material before the interview when you hand the documents in at the vfs office, but I don't know if that's true.

What I do know is that we had tons of supporting materials for our relationship including call log, photos, boarding passes and reservations for trips together, etc. and still got a 221(g) temporary denial on the pretext that they needed more proof. If I were you I would even get notarized letters from friends and family members to support the standard stuff and make sure that they look at everything in the interview, even if they don't ask for it.

Of course, you're going through Canada, so maybe you don't need to worry as much as the Asia and MENA applicants...

If you read the reviews of the Montreal Consulate, or the interview accounts that are numerous in the Canadian forum, you will soon see that 99% of the time, you will not have to show anything extra. However, like I told you in the other thread, it doesn't hurt to take some with you. :)

Agree with Cassie, it has everything to do with the Consulate you are going through. If you read through the Canadian Regional forum or the portals page you will see that it's not commonly asked for there but you will do yourself well to be prepared..just in case. ;)

As a side note... at higher fraud Consulates you will want to have as much proof of your bonafide relationship as possible.

The norm may not be to keep any but they could.... and in some rare instances have...

YMMV

YES -- and be aware that any consulate can refuse to accept your evidence at your interview, deny that you brought any evidence, and send you away either with an outright refusal-to-issue or an order for the U.S. citizen to appear at a second interview -- with the same evidence that the consulate denied the existence of initially. Be thankful that you're going through Montreal and not one of the rogue consulates.

A direct answer to your question would be meaningless. The Consular officer is trained to consider the totality of the circumstances. I've seen what appear to be long term relationships denied and visas issued to people who married on their first and only visit when 18 months later they haven't seen each other in person again. There's no magic answer.
