Blue slipped! Problems with medical records.

My fiance had his interview on Halloween. Everything went fine until it came to his medical records - apparently, my fiance's GP's office is full of worthless c&@#! who don't want to work for their pay, because when Knightsbridge asked for his info, from what I understand, they sent some vague letter rather than what they needed. I'm wondering 1) if anyone else here had this issue and 2) how long it took to be resolved once the offending office finally got themselves in gear and sent the required info. I know at one point, his GP's office was trying to charge him 20 quid for faxing info to Knightsbridge - can they do this? Can they honestly withhold his information if he doesn't allow them to extort money from him just to send a fax?

I'm still seething, I'm so angry about this.

what were knightsbridge tring to find out? current and pending conditions? or do they do this for everyone? (this is the first of me knowing that!)

from experiance, working in a hospital as a nurse. the NHS is very strict with passing on of information because its confidential. most places (such as my own GP's clinic) need written permissionfrom the patient to pass on information. i had to give written permission for my vaccination records to be photocopied for me taking to the medical! and yeah, alot of places charge you the admin fee. thats quite common. sorry im not much help!

Why do you think a GP office would be familiar with the requirements of the US Consulate? What did he ask them for?

If he did not have evidence of prior innoculatons you could have them done there, well you certainly could when I had my medical.

Hi there,

Dont know if this helps? but I managed to get hold of my medical records last week. There was a bit of chasing around as my GP referred me to the NHS local health board who apparently "own" your medical records.. which i think is a little starange as they are "my" medical records.. anyway.. after a bit of running around turns out the Local health board only deal with the deceased's medical records so off I went back to the GP. After some more buck passing i finally managed to get a nice brown envelope stuffed with printouts and photocopys. I paid five whole british pounds for the service..lol

Keep persisting with your GP and if your not getting anywhere ask to speak to the practice manager.

Good Luck!!!

Unless things have changed, you just need our innoculation records.

However a complete copy of your records could be useful over here.

Sterling Girl, do you know what was missing? If it was further information on a medical condition, like diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, etc, then they can't complete the medical without that. The immunizations do not have to be completed before the K1. You can get those in the States before AOS. Best to call Knightsbridge and ask them why the medical was not sent. Then go to the GP office in person and ask for documentation.

I guess each practice has their policies about admin charges for faxes or whatever. GP also are not required to give free shots needed for immigration, but many do. I guess some charge to prepare records too. Nick made an appointment with his GP and showed him the immunization list and asked if he needed any others. He got an MMR for free. He also had the doctor sign his photos for ordering the police certificate. He asked that a copy of his immunizations be researched and prepared for him to take to his medical, since he didn't have the little booklet that some people have. They prepared the record which he picked up in person about a week later. He took that to the medical.

Anybody who is around the NOA 2 point of the K1 process should be getting those kinds of things done now, well before going to the medical appointment. At the medical, they will tell you if you are missing anything required and you should follow up with your GP office until you have the documents you need. Nick found at the medical that he needed Tdap, so he went back to the GP to get it free. Knightsbridge said the GP could fax the record of that last shot to them, giving him the fax number and the specific documentation they needed. They said once they received it, they would forward his medical to the Embassy. He called Knightsbridge to follow up and make sure they received the documentation and had forwarded the medical. You've got to keep checking on things because your immigration is not as important to anybody else as it is to you. They might forget or put it off, so follow up constantly with everybody until it's done.

And slightly off topic, but medical related. Has anybody with a recent medical been given a TB skin test at Knightsbridge or asked for proof of one to be noted in the record? That's a medical requirement now (for AOS, not the K1 visa), even if you have an x-ray. Many people who are filing AOS now and thought they had all their immunizations done and a complete medical are getting RFEs because of not having the TB skin test. So you go through all the bother of getting shots in the UK and paying a bunch for a medical thinking that will carry you through AOS with no further medical work done, only to find out about this TB test thing. It's insane. If you have a positive skin test, you get an x-ray to determine if you really have TB. But having an x-ray that shows you don't have TB without taking the skin test isn't good enough. Wow, really? Thanks for the heads-up; I guess we'll get that done when we go to the health department for our blood tests before we get married.

As for his history - I had made a thread about it a month or so ago, he had seen a psychiatrist for awhile for some depression issues. He was declared perfectly sane and all, but when he had his medical, he brought it up because he didn't want us to get all the way down the line, only to have them discover it on their own and eyeball us because we weren't upfront about it. Knightsbridge wanted additional information, so he contacted his GP about it. He had been told Knightsbridge was faxed the info, but he never got a call that his records were insufficient (which they said they'd do if they didn't have everything, but this is where I kind of told him off - never trust government with anything without verifying things for yourself). Anyhow, we're just worried that with as incompetent and lazy as his GP's surgery has always been, we're going to have to fight tooth and nail for another month to get them what they need. I've already told him that tomorrow morning, he needs to call Knightsbridge and find out precisely what they're looking for, then go to his GP's office in person to request it and pay whatever fees were necessary. So hopefully as soon as that's squared away, we'll have the visa in hand. He's just completely new to things like having to have his medical records sent anywhere, and since I'm rather clueless about how stuff works in the UK, I couldn't be of much help. It's stuff like this that reminds me exactly why I'm handling all the finances, deeds, and anything else on paper. It's just not his forte.

His GP is at it! I was given full access to all my records. Cost me 20p per photo copy, they also offered to pass on anything required for the US medical direct free of charge, even tho I was willing to pay a few quid.

Good luck guys.

That's interesting. I had my medical (IR1) about 6 weeks ago and didn't get any skin test. I'll report back if it comes up at interview.
