Didn't you know, Alaskan governors can declare war too. Only governors who can see Russia from their state can do it.

In a recent Faux News interview with Todd Palin, he actually referred to Alaskan families and American families as distinct categories...

Which would mean Alaska is independent, whether Washington DC realizes it or not.

If only we could discard Alaska's EV's, it would be worth it ;)

I don't think that's how it would work in such scenario. That's besides the point that this scenario isn't going to materialize. Remember, 300+. ;)

Nate Silver gives an EC tie a 0.15% chance of happening. Not likely, I'd agree. But certainly possible.

As for how it would work....

In the case of a tie in the Electoral College, the presidential election would be determined by the House of Representatives. In that case, each state is entitled to only one vote. Thus, California gets the same vote as Alaska or North Dakota.

Democrats maintain a majority in the House, so it is likely that Obama would be chosen as the next president.

However, the 12th Amendment provides that in the case of an Electoral College tie, the election of the vice president is thrown to the Senate.

Democrats have a one-vote majority in the Senate, but Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, a Democrat-turned-independent who caucuses with the Democrats, supports the Republican presidential ticket.

If Lieberman were to vote for Gov. Sarah Palin for vice president, there very likely would be a 50-50 tie between Palin and Sen. Joe Biden. Under the Constitution, a tie vote is broken by the vice president. If Vice President ####### Cheney voted for Palin, Obama would be elected president and Palin vice president.
