I don't understand why the guy was the one charged. It's the girlfriend who wasn't paying. She is the one who should be hauled off to jail.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

It's been my experience that many buffet places (including "Iron Skillets") have explicit signs posted about buffet policy of "no sharing".

Based on this Linscomb is obviously a chopf##k, as well as a cheapstake.

For britty--I have gotten excellent Indian foot at buffets for $8; so for an American-style buffet (such as Iron Skillet), $7 may actually be half- to full-decent.

For this and the previous posts who also mention you can get a good meal for $7, I stand corrected. Clearly I don't get out enough.

You have to wonder at what point the guy decided to take a stand by not paying? And at what point did he actually decide that making a scene like that AND being taken into custody was going to improve his chances with his date

exactly! what a boneheaded dirtbag.

Why didn't she pay for her own damned dinner?? Esp. when it became obvious that he wasn't paying for it?

Fla. woman chooses to go jail over $7.45 bill

Oct 21, 12:12 AM (ET)

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (AP) - A woman decided to go to jail rather than pay her bill at a Fort Pierce Waffle House restaurant. The total she went to jail over: $7.45. According to a police report, Maryanne O'Neill, 66, ordered coffee and a sandwich at a Waffle House restaurant on Saturday but refused to pay the bill.

The report said an officer asked her to pay or go to jail and she refused.

A jail official said she was released Monday from the St. Lucie County Jail. She was charged with obtaining food or lodging with intent to defraud, a second degree misdemeanor.

If convicted of a second degree misdemeanor she could face up to 60 days in jail and a fine of $500.

Well, in fairness....these kinds of anecdotal stories sound absurd on the surface, but if the customer believed they were in the right, then have the right to stand up for themselves. Now they may be totally absurd in their thinking, but what else can they do if they believe they are in the right? At least these people didn't become violent. In fact, it seems a bit overkill for these restaurants to call the cops over such a small amount. In the case of the OP - he should of just paid for two people but if he insisted on not, the manager should have kicked him out of the restaurant and told him he's never welcome back there again. Calling the police over trivial sh!t like this is just absurd. I'd be angry if I were the local sheriff. It's like people have forgotten how to deal with conflict.

You may have missed my amended post; this specific chain is known for having non-buffet options (btw, the portions are fairly generous size) which CAN be shared.

Live in a reasonably small town in Central WI with a population of 19,000, has a large medical clinic so about 10,000 people come here each day. They built a mall about 30 years ago that was packed with the three largest stores, a Younkers, JC Pennies, and a K-Mart. In 2000 when K-Mart was having problems, they shut it down, even though that store was making a profit, were shutting down stores they didn't own. Was a complete K-Mart with an automotive section, but a couple of blocks north Wal-Mart came in with their largest prototype plus all the outlining stores.

Cool, they come in buy a 40 acre plot for pennies, use about a third of it and sell the rest of it for around a million bucks an acre and get the city to rearrange the streets. Another company came in and purchased the mall and spent a lot of money remodeling it, made the whole exterior look like old downtown. With the rent increase, about half the smaller stores left and the once most popular place in town became practically empty.

Starting to see cars in the parking lot again, recently opened an International Cafe, ran by all Chinese people, barely speak English, but can say, thank you very much, LOL. Really nice with all hardwood furnishings and a marble floor, I know marble. Charge $5.99 for the buffet for lunch, $7.99 for supper on weekdays, and $9.99 for supper on weekends. Haven't tried lunch yet, but the food is the same on a weeknight as it is on a weekend. Estimate each buffet is 25 feet long, servings on both side, and four of them for a total of 200 feet of buffet length. Loaded with food, like the roast beef and pork where you cut off what you want, and all kinds of fish, and unlike other Chinese buffets, they have home made dinner rolls, huge salad bar, and one is loaded with deserts. Really don't know how they make a profit, salmon in town is now costing 8 bucks a pound that you have to cook, can cut off a pound if you want. And cooked to perfection. Just all kinds of shrimp, ha forget about all kinds of chicken..

State law requires a clean plate each go around, but no doggie bags with the buffet, but can get one if you order off the menu. Or you can fill up a plate with spaghetti and meatballs, is international. Only a block away from our fast food corner with a Macs, Chips, Arbies, and a Chips, seven bucks doesn't go very far at those places. Ha, also got a new convention center in town, Holiday Inn, wife and I ate there once, a couple drinks with a small meal cost me over 50 bucks, and we left hungry, but the international cafe does not serve alcohol. It's unbelievable the number of other restaurants we have in this small town, do have three other Chinese restaurants that serve buffets, but nothing like this one, more like 15 feet of serving length.

Can't visualize trying to share a meal to save seven bucks, we don't eat out that often, maybe 2-3 times per month, ha, wife says she eats too much, has to watch her figure. We both hate Macs, really a rip off, they would go broke if they depended on us.

We visit the Mall of America that is only about six blocks away from the St. Paul field office, don't know why, same stuff costs twice as much as around here even though everything is 50% off, least that is what all those signs say.
