Hi everyone-

I've been around for a couple months, but haven't ever really introduced myself!

My fiance and I met in January 2007. I went to Ciudad Sandino, Nicaragua, right outside of Managua to volunteer at a sustainable development non-profit. Yader was part of the staff there at the time. Not heeding the advice of my mother "Whatever you do, don't go down there and fall in love," I fell in love. Yader and I started dating in May 2007. It developed pretty quickly, as we had to ask and answer some serious questions early on, aka Are we willing to continue this? Where? our families? (Yader has a son involved) etc.

On September 2, 2007, on the beach at sunrise in San Juan del Sur, Yader proposed. We decided not to tell family yet because they were all already a little freaked out. And considering we still had no clue about Visa Journey, we had no clue how to proceed.

We also ran into some problems with the non-profit where we were working; they disagreed that love can trumph geographic, economic and cultural boundaries, (sorry, sometimes Im a romantic...) and had a rule against staff dating/carrying on with volunteers. So we considered our options, and I left for the states.

I had planned on moving back semi-permanently, but was unable to find work. So instead I have had to settle for visits, which are becoming less and less frequent because of my new job.

We were actually members of VJ about a year ago and that is how we learned all of our options  but because of a botched application for a visitor's visa (thank you yader's lawyer) in Oct 07, we spent from January 08 to July 08 backtracking and 'fixing' (dont ask its a nightmare). We finally! sent in our completed K-1 application in August and received our NOA1 on Aug 11.

Now we are just waiting around, running up the phone bill, and clogging up VJ forums with questions and advice!

I'm glad you guys are out there, because it seriously gets impossibly hard sometimes. And I'm sick on blank looks and confused comments of those who dont understand how hard it is to be in this situation!

Good luck on finishing your journey.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

The International Institute? I'm from St. Louis as well. I'm a Long-Term Care Ombudsman. We'll be having a get-together sometime in January for VJ members from the area. Hope to see you there!

Welcome to VJ, and best of luck on your journey!

Crazy! Acutally, I work at a place called La Clinica, Latino Community Health Center, but it's about 2 blocks north of the International Institute on Grand. Exiciting to know there are St. Louis people out there!
