In theory at least, we have to eat lunch at noon or 12:00 PM, but since the USA spans 105* of the earth's 360* circumference, much more if you include Hawaii, every town at every different longitude will have a different time. Can't have that so extending from Alaska to the far east, we have six different time zones to deal with. Flying is simple, all planes fly by Zulu time, all clocks show the same time. But since school has to start at 8:00 AM, bad for the kids waiting for a school bus, just a bit of light outside now at 7:30 AM, but ten minutes ago was pitch black outside, not safe for kids to wait for a school bus, the clocks have to be moved back an hour. Kids could wear reflective clothing, or they could start an hour later, but we all have to start at the same clock setting. It's all relative anyway, but tonight, many of us have to set our clocks back an hour.

Biggest pain in the butt for me is my own digital watch, had four buttons on it, haven't set the time in eight months, and can't seem to remember which button does what. Can't go backwards, only forward that means advancing it 23 hours, easy to overshoot the exact time, so have to do it again. Like my old windup clocks the best, just move the hour hand back an hour. Then there are the FAX machines, telephones, microwave, range, VCR's, TV sets, coffee pot, vehicle clocks, where is the manual, computers, well Windows should do that, but since they changed the dates, not sure if that was upgraded yet. Can't forget my alarm clock, do have one of those WWV clocks that should be self correcting, but that technology is old, can't rely on the signal between strong enough to do it's job.

Ha, we can certainly talk about freedom, but all of us are slaves to the clock, why is that? Ha, the USCIS is certainly an exception to that rule, never kept their end at the appointed time, as much as a three hour wait for us, but did do the oath ceremony just one minute later, that was some kind of miracle with them.

But everybody has to be at the same place at the same time, translation, huge traffic jams, schools are notorious for this and is it really more economical to close down a bunch of local schools and jam them all into one place? I was finally relieved of that last year of dropping kids off, have 2-3 extra hours in the day now after that fiasco.

Some of us can sleep an extra hour tonight but some will have to work that extra hour. Is anybody with a self correcting clock going to stay up tonight to see if it switches back?

I was on a night train in France a few years back when daylight savings time ended. Did you know the train just stops and sits on the track for an hour at 2 am?
