Anchorage has logged the eighth coldest October on record, the National Weather Service said today.With an average temperature of 29.7 degrees, October landed a spot in history as one of the 10 coldest out of the roughly 90 years since records have been kept in Anchorage.

The coldest summer ever? You might be looking at it, weather folks say. Right now the so-called summer of ‘08 is on pace to produce the fewest days ever recorded in which the temperature in Anchorage managed to reach 65 degrees.

yeah global warming has taken effect here, first summer since i've been in kansas that we didn't have over 100 degrees.

plus way more rain than usual.

Gore's yardstick for measuring global warming is the cost of running his home's air conditioning system. Just figured since his bills are a hell of a lot higher, it must be a hell of a lot hotter outside.

One cause of increased cost is maintenance, AC's really consume a lot more energy when running low on refrigerant, maybe he forgot he was instrumental in banning CFC's specifically R-22 that was never proved to deplete the ozone layer. Actually not banned in the USA, still can buy it, have to be certified by a 3rd party company working for the EPA, EPA is not smart enough to write a test, but the price is about a hundred times as much.

Then failed energy policies, in many areas of this country, like mine, the electrical rates have tripled over the last eight years.

But it can't be that, has to be global warming. Can't look at the thermometer, last year we had the coldest winter since temperatures were recorded. Gore should stick with subjects he knows about, like playing with blocks in a kindergarten class. Not teaching how to build with blocks, just playing with them.

Strange things are occurring.

Many towns have been and are being moved due to rising water levels (in Alaska too), and the pipeline and some homes are having trouble standing up due to the permafrost not going to 6' (I believe) any more.

Things will get weirder.

The unusual has become the usual.

Gore might not be a saint (is anyone??), but at least he did some work to get important issues to the surface.

He raised awareness.

And it doesn't matter if you want to call it global warming or global changes.

One must question the validity of "man made" Global warming, when the loudest

voices proclaiming our doom do very little to change their life style.

Let's not kid ourselves, buying those cute canvas grocery bags are not going to do anything.

Getting rid of your A/C will, are you willing to do that???

Will you cut out hot showers or even reduce your shower time in half?

Buying an expensive light bulb makes you feel "green" but a light bulb never burned much energy to begin with. Why not lower your thermostat to 62, now your talking real savings.

Ya see, we want to save the planet but we want to do it "comfortably".

Zactly. It is going to take actual laws/fines imposed on citizens who don't turn their thermostats down, who don't keep their A/Cs set to 80 degrees to get people to stop.

Don't get me wrong though. I would personally be okay with such laws because I already do these things, I just have very serious doubts most of America will. I think that your average Joe thinks the Global Warming problem is going to be solved by the government forcing the big bad oil companies to clean up their act, and taxing the ####### out of them to make them pay for their sins while we sit back and just enjoy lower energy prices and continue most of our existing lifestyle unchanged.

America is in for a big wake up call.
