Hi guys,

So we had our interview today (supposed to be at 9:00 am in Boston) but we were eventually called in at 9:45. I am an immigrant and my wife is a US citizen. We were prepared and we felt we had nothing to hide with our 5 years of relationship. So we were confident. We go in and the usual stuff is asked if I know her middle name, where she was born and etc. The woman who was interviewing us was very friendly and helpful. We found out later from her that she is new to the job (today was her second day). She checks everything and asked to see some photographs (we had about 15-20) not a whole lot but ranging since 2003 upto now. She did not really check any documents verifying if we lived together. She believed us that we have been together since 2003. Then she takes everything to her supervisor- who tells her the affidavit of support cannot be approved (yet!) My wife is in grad school and makes just under the poverty guideline and none of our savings would actually count towards it. I had put down my uncle as a co-sponsor (joint sponsor- i am not sure if there is a difference) but they could not find a proof of him being a permanent resident (which they lost somehow). I don't understand why can't they just look him up through his SSN and verify that infact he is a Permanent Resident (they still had all the tax documents from him). But the lady interviewing us let us use her cellphone (apparently you can bring cell phones inside, we can't stress how helpful this interviewing officer was, her name was Margaret) to call my uncle and joked us about not to tell her boss about that (she was keeping us calm, or me really, my wife was comforting me as well and whispering to me that things will be fine) She goes to the supervisor a couple more times and hands us the document that tells us about the things we need to bring back (which was a copy of my co-sponsor's greencard). This took us 2 hours. Here I was expecting a smooth ride and out in 30 min, but oh well. But she did tell us that she approved the I-130. Is that possible? After that she escorted us outside and showed us where I had to bring the supporting documents. She said everything should be fine. I called my uncle (borrowing someone else's cellphone) and had him fax a copy of his greencard. Which I then took back to E-140 (that was the room number). An officer came out with the document and told us that we can go home now and that we will be sent a letter in the mail after they review the documents. Am I all set and are they just going to send me my greencard or are they going to call us again for the interview?

It was not a long drive but still it was a 2 hour drive one way and a long process- we applied on Feb'08. We had hoped to have a smooth experience like many of you and it seemed to be going that way for a little bit--

Has anybody had a similar experience or anything close?

I wouldn't worry about it. I was told the same thing. If they need anything else from you, they will let you know.

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

I suspect the next thing you will hear is that your card is approved and on its way:-).

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks guys for the positive words. I sure hope that is how things will turn out. :) It was just that I was hoping everything would be wrapped up when I walked out of the interview. But all I can do now is wait.

Everything will be fine! Good luck on the speedy approval and your greencard!
