Wonder what that Journee thinks?

It's funny you say that cause, yes, we know almost all our neighbors and it is close knit. 3 of my neighbors have keys to my house.

I am still waiting for the bar-b-que invite!!!!!

Here, it depends on the neighborhood - Where I live, we are friendly with the neighbors across the street - The ones next to us are new, and had an open house last Christmas - My mom and I were the only ones from the neighborhood who went - Beyond that, we really don't know anyone else - I know the people who live on the other side by name, but at my Dad's wake didn't recognize them.

My sister lives in the same town - her street is all families, they all get a long, have block parties, etc....

JG ON THAT NOTE..HUBBY WENT TO BROOKLYN AND STATED WE LIVE WHERE WE'RE SUPPOSE TO..BROOKLYN TOO NOISY

It depends on what part of Brooklyn, I live in canarise and its very quiet, Flatbush now is a different story. Plus I found this supermarket in Queens "Farmia" when I go there I feel like I am in Jamaica. I hear the raw jamaican cussing the noise the people, plus they sell everything you can imagine in there.

Of course, i have seen both sides of Brooklyn he hasn't the reply was from his experience :)

How tough is Brooklyn, Kimmy, on the whole. I have a SIL there now and I am worried about her.

girl, it's like night and day some places you go..i mean straight thru the night there is traffic (foot, auto) and then u go to park slope and a whole different story..

I know, when I was looking for apt, I would drive down a block and it would be all nice, you go down a little more and you are in a complete different world.

WHY WESTMORELAND SO QUIET...HEY GIRL...

Hello - it was crazy at work Friday. The residents were really acting up. LOL I usually just read and laugh, cry, etc. with all the things you ladies are experiencing. If you've read my story - then you know why I'm quiet. I really enjoy being here reading, responding (when possible) regardless of how things turned out for me.

Thanks for the shout out!

Pam

Girl, i know ur story and i really feel for you and I really wanted you to know that you are welcomed here no matter the outcome..we love u always ..so come on in when u feel..we talk more about everything but the VISA JOURNEY :blink:

Honestly, I feel that way about anyone in the same situation. This is no exclusive club. Once you are family, you are family!

I agree - Kimmy and JG beat me to it -

I really wanted this this question to be infomational, to help others who may find their self in the same situations. How does the US job market recognize their level of education learning. Exclude College that is on another level.

I am aware that their high school education is set up entirely different than ours. Also, their trade school learning is set up different too. i.e plumbling, welding,electrician and computer.

If they have a trade occupation, how do they apply it here?

i have to jump in here. it sounds to me that you are being overly concern about how well a jamaican integrate themselves into american society. i agree that it will take some adjustment but the idea of going out there to get a jobs takes a little more than book smarts. it takes a great attitude and a desire to learn. we maybe from different places geographical but there is a common understanding that if someone wants something they will find the tools necessary to make it happen for them. so yes, i agree that one should prepare for an interview but i also know that despite the cultural difference people can adapt to there surroundings and sometimes that will take good and bad experiences. something you just cannot prepare for. so take comfort in knowing that all those who are trying to make a life for themself will make it happen. don't be so caught up.

hey jg

if I am quiet its cuz I am not TECHNICALLY here :whistle: i am staying signed on all day cuz its easier to stay on than to waste 3 min while I sneak back to my desk to read ya'll comments ;):bonk::rofl:

have fun ya'll

Oh.. RG and I want to do CR1 cuz we don't have to worry about filing AOS b4 he can work.. I know the visits that he (he has his visitor visa) and I will take could add up to that $1000 AOS fee, but at least I don't have to try to scrape it all up at one time b4 he can go on w/ his life.. He is very adamant about hoping to find wrk soon.. him nuh like sitting around!!

I wish oh wish we had that kind of money to spare cuz I would do the quickest route possible. I hope I get into one of those quick processing waves.

ok..have fun.. running back to work!!

Neither of us are a fan of rum. I could live off rum cream.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Me too! There is a Barbados brand I can find here that is a close second - I have also seen this recipe, although haven't tried it -

Ingredients

* 1 (300 g) can sweetened condensed milk

* 1 1/2 cups rum (use white or amber, you can use less if desired, I like to use the 1-1/2 cups!)

* 1 cup whipping cream

* 2 eggs

* 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup

* 2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions

1. Mix all ingredients in a blender until smooth.

2. Pour into a very clean glass bottle.

3. Refrigerate it for up to 7 days, the flavors will intensify the longer you leave it, believe me it won't last that long LOL!
